Latest update
From 7-9 November, one of the three runways at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will be closed for surface repair work. Be prepared for flight delays and/or cancellations. Consult the airport's website for up-to-date information. This travel advice has been reviewed and remains current. The level of our advice has not changed. Exercise a high degree of caution in India overall. Higher levels apply in some parts of India.

Of all the dates I could have chosen when I booked 3 days a go to fly into Delhi, I had to go with the 7th of November! Now I just have to hope that my arrival flight from Singapore on the 7th is not delayed (or worse cancelled) or same for my domestic flight departure on the morning of the 8th.

This would be scheduled maintenance of the runway, airlines would have been forewarned and it would have been planned in advance ( well...maybe, it is India..).

I doubt it'll end up a disaster, but do update how it turns out.

Agree it will be scheduled maintenance and I would be surprised if t affects my inbound flight on SQ but not holding my breath for my outbound domestic flight on the 8th :). Wouldn’t be surprised if there are delays with that departure.

My 2c....

1. Isn't it great Smart Traveller provided that update, particularly when...

2. ... the airline and/or travel agent didn't.

But I'm sure the airline would have advised you IF there is going to be a delay. This is scheduled work and the airlines will have known about it, most probably for months and have worked around it to ensure a smooth passage.....but as others have said, this is India

I wouldn't complain about India in this case: Only three days to carry out this repair work? I know some Western countries where just putting up the fencing would take longer than that...

Very true but they didn't say exactly what work was being done, they might just be changing one light bulb:)

I saw a light bulb being changed at Mumbai airport many years ago. Albeit was a high ceiling - it did take 7 of them and quite a long time with lots of disagreement and associated arm gestures.....

There is an ongoing threat of cross-border missiles and rocket attacks from Yemen deep into Saudi territory. On 4 November 2017, a missile was intercepted and destroyed near King Khaled International Airport, Riyadh. Exercise caution in public places and monitor the media for developments which may affect your security. Reconsider your need to travel to Saudi Arabia overall. Higher levels apply in some areas.
