A friend called me up this morning, saying he was dropping off somebody at the airport and wanted to know if he was able to be guested in the lounge as the person flying held a J ticket. Without question I said that wouldn't be a problem, as I recall passengers in J with no status can take in one guest.

Upon arriving at the MEL lounge the guest was refused access on the basis that the pax travelling in J did not have any status with Velocity, and Business Class passengers had no guesting privileges. Not even if two people were flying together. They were however offered to purchase a guest pass for $60.

When I heard about this, I jumped onto the lounge access rules on the Velocity website (Lounge Access with Velocity Membership | Velocity Frequent Flyer ) and noticed that all the information about guesting rights based on fare class, had been removed, now showing only status based guesting rights.

What's the go here Virgin? Last time I checked J pax were allowed one guest in the lounge. It'd be nice if we could have a clear policy for lounge rights.

Facts:

Pax 1:
Not a Velocity Member
Held a J ticket MEL-SYD

Guest:

Wow

That is along way short of what QF offers.

Are you sure you're not just thinking of QF, and that DJ have ever actually offered it in the past? I know it's not something I've ever seen as a benefit of flying J with DJ....

Saying that the guest has to be traveling technically to have access in the QF situation. What happens in reality can differ depending on the staff members manning the forte.

I could certainly be wrong, but I've always had it in my head that J pax are permitted one guest.

I stand corrected.

If your are WP you can take guests in that don't need to be travelling.

Sorry didn't realise that it as a feature of WP status.

I knew it was a benefit when flying QF as I have done so on different occasions with a J ticket (other than the little tidbit about the guest needing to be flying too). But sorry, wouldn't know in this case if it was ever a DJ benefit, though seeing as they like copying all of QF's business decisions, maybe it will be a feature soon! ;)



With two people travelling on a J rewards ticket, we were not allowed to guest a non-flying passenger into the lounge, but I was able to use a single entry pass to get the person in. Status of flying passengers was silver and red.

Yep, it wont be long till REX needs to step up to the plate as VANTAS will be next to QANTAS on the we hate you pedestal and the fanbois will need a new lover ;-)

Or alternatively, DJ could decide to be different and offer the travelling public real choice! ;)
