Platinum
Hi everyone,

I achieved SG a month or so ago or the first time ever! I got a double SC deal and happened to be travelling a lot during that time. VERY pleased.

NOW, the question is ... do I shoot fr Platinum?

As of today, the QF web site tells me I need 380 status credits to achieve Platinum. I don't have much travel planned for the rest of this year and my review date is 30 Nov. (I have LOTS of travel planned for next year, so Platinum would be nice!)

By the end of October, I will probably need EITHER 260 or 300 credits to achieve Platinum.

Is it worth shooting for this??

I have no travel plans for November ... but November is fairly clear in my schedule, so I could do a status run (or two).

My the end of October, I will have about 35,000 points (I've used quite a few lately with upgrades).

Any suggestions about what I could book to achieve WP? Or is it not worth it?

Thank you in advance fir your suggestions,

Michael

And my apologies for the numerous typos in my original post ... I flew HBA - MEL - SYD tonight, with LOTS of delays, home at 10:30PM ... and my brain is not working optimally!

If you are flying a lot next year then WP could be worth it just for the status bonus points earn.

+1

Gaining status is always good if you have a number of future trips planned, the earlier in your anniversary year you get there, the better, as you get those privileges for a longer period.

Or looking at it the other way, there's no point striving for a higher status if you then don't have any opportunities to take advantage of it.

Do whatever you need to do to get Platinum if you have enough travel planned for the following 12 months

The service I have been receiving on Qantas as a Platinum is simply beyond amazing!

Platinum over Gold:

PB on Domestic
Domestic Business Lounges (SYD, MEL, BNE) - including Arrival Access
Increased Points (not applicable if only flying short domestic legs)
Better seating options (YMMV)
International First Check-In and First Lounge access
(Reputedly) Better Award Options - I dispute this
Award Seat Release Request
Premium Line
Better International Baggage Allowance

Only you can determine whether they are worth the chase, but be warned: like all sweet-fruit, once tasted it's difficult to give up. This is my first month of my first full-WP year and I'm already chasing how I'll retain!!

Regards,

BD

That's strange you should say beyond amazing!!!!
Platinum is good, especially when traveling International.
Difference between SG & WP minimal at domestic level.
The level of service I have received in the last 2 years as WP is good, not amazing and not a lot different to SG or PS.

The last 4 flights I have had, domestic, as a Platinum, the CSM has gone above and beyond to look after me, even when sitting in Economy....

I've done 3 international segments in premium economy since qualifying WP. Priority security lane is very nice, though for my latest QF9 the express pass in heathrow was not handed out... No big deal. I've not really felt any special treatment on board. For one segment back in August the CSM was very pleasant in greeting me, mentioning the FA team were aware of my status and would look after me. I was told to ask if I needed anything... Not knowing what extra treatment I could expect I didn't ask for anything above what I would receive in Y+ anyway.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
