I had an appointment in HBA and instead of flying direct I elected to go via MEL as I had already achieved Gold requirement of SC but not eligible sectors.

Morning of the flight, the SYD - MEL is cancelled and I was put on the direct service SYD - HBA. Return was fine.

End result I was left with 7 sectors not 8.

I called up, rep looked it up and confirmed, reversed the points/SC and eligible for the direct flight and re credited points / SC and 2 x eligible sectors as per my original itinerary.

Called me back 1hr later to confirm it was completed.

Great customer service right there and Gold for another year.

That's the type of story I like to hear, but really........weren't you owed those SCs and points regardless? Let's face it, I haven't seen a connect charged as cheaply as a direct with VA for a long time. Did you pay more for the connect over the direct?

I must admit, the call centre can be really good and can be a bit curt. You got lucky this time! ;)

Yes, the connect was dearer than the direct. That was actually the basis of my contact with VA when asking. I guess from my perspective I felt I was owed them anyway but I do like to credit were credit is due. It could have been a long winded argument with an incompetent agent or a seamless scenario.

I really appreciate when you get someone who not only understands but wants to resolve promptly and with decent service..

Great to hear the call centre understanding things from your perspective as opposed to strictly applying the SCs / sectors which were actually flown.

Isn't the requirement just 4 eligible sectors for Gold though?

I had a cracker with them too recently. My SYD - BNE was canx day of travel and they got our group of 3 the last 3 Y seats on the next flight. They ticketed us on the next flight in Flexi fare classes when we originally booked in T saver and I got the points of the higher fare class (@5 point/$ on the higher fare basis + status bonus) and the flexi status credits and then got the last J points upgrade from the lounge using points, for the flexi points cost!

They should canx more flights on me!

Maintaining Gold requires 400 Status Credits & 4 Eligible Sectors... Unless you are now aiming for the Upgrade to Platinum; 8 Eligible Sectors in the bag, now you just need 1000 Status Credits :)

Yes i am aware of the requirement. My sector balance was already 4 and i needed an additional 4 to re qualify.

Yes but for re qualify you must fly additional 4 eligible sectors in that year.

Within your new Membership Year

I.e If you upgrade or maintain Gold status as at July 1 2015, you must earn 400 SC & have 4 eligible sectors earned between July 1 2015 & July 1 2016 to maintain Gold again; Any SC/ES earned prior to the upgrade/maintain won't count towards the new maintain period

I am not sure what you are advising me here...Sorry

I became Gold, 25 June 2015 with 500 SC and 4 Eligible sectors. Since June 25, I have done another 420 SC and needed another 4 eligible sectors to maintain for a further 12 months. Hence my opening comments about my flight last week.

Are we actually talking about the same thing ?

So then your fine then; You've meet the requirements indeed with your 400~ SC & 4 ESs to maintain Gold, since your initial upgrade date of June 25 2015, from now until June 25 2017

Assuming none of those SC/ES earnt for you to upgrade to Gold have expired, you should have a SC balance of 920 & 8 ES; Very close to now upgrading to Platinum...
