Hi all,

Just have a quick question, I am travelling to Kuala Lumpur in October on a work trip and hoping to make use of my newly attained gold status to access lounges.

I am travelling SYD-SIN on QF and SIN-KUL on 3K (Jetstar Asia). The Jetstar flight will have a QF number, looks like.

I know I can access the lounge in Sydney before flying out, and in Singapore between hops on the way back as my ongoing flight will be Qantas, and I will be accessing Qantas operated lounges.

What I'm not so sure on is accessing the lounge in Singapore on the way there (ongoing flight is Jetstar Asia) and in KL on the way back (ongoing flight is Jetstar Asia). Especially on the way back, I believe the lounge I would go to in KUL would be run by MAS?

Thanks.

You'll be able to use the QF lounge in SIN provided it's open but there's no QF lounge in KUL. As the flight isn't operated by QF or a oneworld airline there won't be any lounge access in KUL.

I am a regular on the route and agree with this, no lounge access at SIN before 2.30.

Welcome to AFF :D

oneworld Elite lounge access rules require the Emerald/Sapphire member to be outbound both on a oneworld airline operated aircraft and booked on a oneworld flight number.

Sadly, Jetstar airlines are not of oneworld, so access to a MH lounge is not available by the T&C's.

Thanks all!!

I was hoping to fly QF/3K over there and MH on the way back, but the cost ended up quite a bit more because it would be two one-way flights.

So it looks like I will be able to use the QF lounge in Sydney, the QF lounge in SIN on the way there, and the QF lounge in SIN on the way back. Will just have to slum it like normal in KUL :)

I should at least be able to get into a lounge in SIN for a quick bite and shower before the long flight back to Sydney. No biggie.

Keep in mind the QF Codeshares won't earn points and SCs on 3K, your better off to book separately as its often cheaper when coupled with the Brazilian way ;).

I had the same trouble last month flying to coughet. (not that the lounges there are anything to write home about!......neither is the airport). SIN lounge makes up for it though:)

How annoying that you can't access a OneWorld lounge when travelling on a QF number but on a 3K plane.

It's just standard MO.

As a matter of interest, I've spotted in the past that virtually every flight operating to/from KL has a MH codeshare. Would an Enrich Gold expect to have access to a non-MH oneWorld lounge when flying on one of these? EG: MI336/MH9152: if an MH Gold was flying on this MH codeshare, would they expect to have access to the CX Lounge in Singapore?

if you are just flying the SIN-KUL secotors (without it being oart of a connecting ticket) an alternative is to book air Asia red carpet service on the way back (KUL-SIN). lounge access, golf cart to plane, personal welcome and thank you for flying air asia from the air aisa checkin manager, priority queue jumping at every stage. it was actually quite fun (for a one off) and a bargain for USD30 (the fare itself was about $10).

the only downside was getting to the LCCT... it's a one hour bus ride from sentraal compared to 30 minutes on the train to KLIA.

I've made it into the Cathay Lounge in KL before on a 3k boading pass, I told them it was a QF flight number but was a jetstar flight and I was actually heading to SG to then transit onto QF to fly out in the evening as well and the fact that I was doing this convinced them to let me in to the lounge.

If you do book a QF flight from KL to Syd they will sell you the 3K ticket so I think it is fair enough that a OW lounge should let you in if you are in KUL

Have been denied access to the MAS lounge in Penang trying the same strategy though, Cathay could be worth a try however?

If you try then expect disappointment if your are denied. Access is NOT allowed under oneWorld rules:

Enjoy exclusive access to premium airport lounges around the world with oneworld Emerald or Sapphire frequent flyer tier status. Members of oneworld airline frequent flyer programmes with the equivalent of oneworld Emerald or Sapphire tier status can use any lounge offered by any oneworld airline when departing on any flight marketed AND operated by any oneworld member airline, regardless of cabin class being flown.

My emphasis.

Taking OW out of the picture, 3K sells points and SC on it's flights so it seems quite nasty to shut the lounges when 3K pax are mostly travelling out of SIN in the mornings. Certainly not doing anything to enhance 3K brand or QFF in SIN.

It was only recently 3K got lounge access, by that time the QP hours had changed so they were never shut it so to speak.

Isn't the relevance who you are paying the money to and not the markings on the aircraft? I would assume that if it has a QF number on the ticket then you are entitled to One World access?

Not with Oneworld, all benefits are only applicable on services that are marketed and operated by a member, otherwise the lounges would be a lot busier with passengers flying on other airlines.

Considering if you booked Sydney to penang in a single fair via the Qantassites ythe price is around 1600/1700 compared to Sydney to Singapore on a single booking for 800 + a $150 Singapore to penang fare separately, if I had booked in a single itinerary with Qantas and paid the extra $600 I would really expect lounge access even on a 3k boarding pass so a bit of a bad policy if you ask me

Anyone noticed you can't get the Brazilian discount per-sin anymore in 2014? Seems like they only want to sell full Y fares.

Count yourself extremely lucky.

I wonder if that strategy is going to work all the time.
