I have heard a rumour that the taxi booking and payment app GoCatch will soon be paying QFF points for rides over $10.

As a semi regular user of the app - mostly to call a taxi when I am nowhere near a rank - this means 'free' points. I'm not sure I will use the app more often for a small haul of points.

Just downloaded this App and added my QFF details to my profile.

Certainly happy to give this one a go.

Somewhat of a game-changer over uber, will be interesting to see how many users 'gocatch' attracts as a result of its partnership with QFF.

How's Uber's access to picking up customers from MEL & SYD airports looking these days ?

In MEL at least, UberX could presumably pick you up from the general public pick-up area but the airport zone isn't exactly crawling with UberX drivers so you may have quite a wait. I've never tried it though.

Uber Black is no problem, there are usually a few in the airport.

Reporting back to say that I used goCatch twice during the weekend and the Qantas points have already landed into my account.
Quite impressed.

Sydney was previously only Uber black at the airport anyway. Those are accredited drivers. According to the quote Sydney airport is happy for accredited drivers to do pick ups. I fail to see how they can ban them from picking up. Especially when they've done nothing about the touting by private hire car drivers.

Don't forget with Uber you can earn SPG points ;)

How to make this happen? Can't find any setting in the app.

this app is rubbish - gave it a run a few months back and every ride I tried to book to the city or airport was either ignored or there were no drivers using it.

on the airport pickup question, this was settled a couple of months back when that taxi thug tried his uber entrapment on Lateline which backfired - the AFP attended and advised that no commonwealth laws were being broken with an UberX driving into the airport.

so like most of the rhetoric these days this would also be hot air given the airport authority has no way of knowing which cars are UberXs and which ones aren't. nothing to stop you dropping the pin outside and calling the driver into the pickup area same as you would for a friend or relative...

Now we just need Virgin or QF to also offer points with Uber and I'm all set..
Will still stick with Uber Black for now (or in X where Black isn't used)

Agree. This isn't enough to pull me away from Uber.
The only time I use cabs is when using an old fashioned cabcharge paper voucher thing, and that's no good with this app.

...

I will agree with you, that I did experience this once last week.

I've heard that in Melbourne in particular , that some ( and I emphasis that word.... some) taxi drivers are quite fussy about picking up jobs on gocatch that are relatively short.

I gave immediate feedback on the app, when I was rejected on the weekend and the next day I got an email from Gocatch asking for more details, so they are aware of this issue of some Taxi drivers being reluctant to pick up customers on small trips.

Certainly competition is a good thing, and I'm more than happy to give both taxis & Uber a go.
I suspect though the tension between the two groups will remain for sometime until the legal issues are worked out.

NB: I have no links to this company, I am an early adopter who has used it widely.

I've been active on both the UberX and this thread. I tried GoCatch for the free try-out credit, and had two free/reduced price trips. Worth it if only to get free money for taxi trips you would have taken anyway.

Also helpful to 'call' a taxi when you don't have a nearby landmark (eg. In an unfamiliar city).

You still get a taxi so all the usual smelly, dirty and lack of knowledge issues apply ... But with increased safety (both phones GPS track the journey), drivers are rated by pax and you can pay directly to the driver (cab charge) or through the app for a lower CC fee, also via PayPal.

It will suit some and not others. Ps. Cheeky OT, but I posted free credit in the referrals thread:

the hyperlink to the Gocatch website at the bottom of the press release does need to be fixed, the official site does not have the .au at the end ...
Current link points me to some domain hosting company.

Edit 1:
PM sent to RR on the above as well

Edit 2:
on gocatch itself, I seldom use cabs for personal matters, but a few times for work, can I set up the app so that I get the credit but then pay the fare with work credit card when I am in the cab? I'd need the tax invoice.

I used it on the weekend and points credited yesterday, less than 48 hours from payment.

Yes, you can change the credit card details from your account in the app. You will still be emailed the tax invoice and have the QFF points credited to your account.
