Just spent hours trying to price a CBR to DPS run to no avail... I have wide range of dates to do the run but when I have to book the return separately and keep hitting high fares or ‘Your flight from Sydney to Canberra will be in economy’ it was impossible to replicate close to optimal $/SC.

Will probably just have to do some MEL-SYD-WLG

It appears Qantas are heavily discounting flights to LAX and SFO if anyone is looking for a cheap trip to the US to earn DSCs today. Make sure you select a flight on QF, not AA, metal.

Starting from $665 return from MEL:

I'm sitting on 700 SCs with 9 months to go until reset... but I still almost got tempted by the DSC promo!!!
First time ever I don't think I am going to take it up - I def need to fly more later this year but the pressure to spend so much $$ up front for trips so far in the future just doesn't work with my cash flow at the moment :-(

On the bright side, anyone travelling mid-week JQ at the moment... fares are sooooooooo low. For example, $79 each way MEL-OOL, add the Max Bundle for $85 the return total is $328 (60 SCs) - and it's changeable etc no punishment. QF would require almost $400 for the same itin on a red-e deal, and would also be 60 SCs during the DSC promo - but have all the restrictions of the red-e deal fare.

I'm no fan of JQ, but if I am chasing SC, rather than being locked into a red-e deal on QF, I would take the Max bundles any day... and they are all year round.

JQ isn't included for this DSC promo.

Just book a dummy flex flight from whatever place it was starting with B to Longreach for $149 and then turn it into a voucher with PNR attached for later use.

Gold Coast to Adelaide via Melbourne for 100SC at $879 isn't too bad, I just booked one.

Gold Coast to Auckland via Melbourne is another good one, but timing don't really work.

I’ve booked one of the suggested routes ADL-BNE-CHC-BNE-ADL in J. It didn’t matter if I went to AKL at slightly less credits, but I like Christchurch. Flying PER-BNE-CHC return costs quite a lot more, so I’m using points to connect with Adelaide. It is annoying that my current excess of status credits with many more to earn tonight will go away at the end of this month. It would be great if they could carry over to my next year.

PP - what was the $cost and how many SC's earned for that one?

It has just occurred to me, with coronavirus impacting extremely negatively in places where I want to take advantage of any airline status, (today Italy just bumped into the list) is there any point this term in chasing it?

🤫🤫🤫 QF unconcerned as all redemptions are future revenue, the aim of the game. Given pandemic will be severely limiting opportunities to redeem on QFi over next 12 months, of more concern would be even more crowded dom lounges...

I was thinking something similar but without specific destinations and so I've decided to use the DSC to chase Platinum after my QFF anniversary on April 30th rather than doing a CBR-MEL-AKL run now to get it - that way I will have WP for about 22 months instead of about 13.

Sure, redemptions are all revenue.. absolutely.

My point was a most likely significant jump in flex bookings, and cancels, on a relatively obscure route WILl attract attention imo.

Now this is interesting. 180SC for under $700. I can't find a similar earn domestically, even using Flex. I get $3.70 per SC isn't great, but it doesn't require a hefty investment compared to NZ flights (which seem to require J fare class to be attractive). Am I missing something, or are others thinking about this? I'm considering a long weekend.

Hands up who thinks QF won't notice all these flex fare cancels on BCI-LRE and won't take note? :D
I wasn't able to follow upthread - why is this route so popular for booking a fully flex ticket? Because it's the cheapest route to book a fully flex hence the smallest "downpayment"?

That's it in a nutshell

A question for those that know - if you convert a Flex booking to a voucher can it be used for new Saver or sale bookings or only Flex (or higher classes) bookings?

And does the date of the new booking have to be after the date of the old booking or are there no date restrictions?

J is actually cheaper than flexible economy.?!!?
Earn is 140 SC each way, total 560 with DSC. $1495. It’s on a 737, but that really doesn’t matter for 3 hour flights. So $2.67 per status credit.

It's an interesting question. I'm seeing a $99 fee for cancelations on the flex fare rules. But that might apply to refunds only.
It does say changes are allowed to anywhere on the qantas netwrok, without a fee. But I'm not sure how you can change the route without cancelling.

Changes have to be in the same fare bucket or higher. Which should rule out saver fares.

So you can only use the credit on other flexi fares? No red e-deal (sale) or saver ("normal" economy) fares?

Further, if you want to to use the credit on a business/premium economy class fare, does that mean you can only use it on a flexi business/PE class and not a sale or saver business/PE class fare?

This makes this method of generating a PNR dated before the midnight tonight a lot less appealing compared to if you can use the credit for any type of fare at all.

I think someone up-thread confirmed that the $99 cancellation fee only applies to refunds and is not applied to credit vouchers.
