Velocity's 7 Million Point Slice

Velocity Frequent Flyer has reached a whopping 7 million members!
So to thank you (our loyal members) and to celebrate, we’re giving away 7 million Velocity Points. How many Points you receive depends on how many members enter, but rest assured, everyone’s a winner. All you have to do to claim your slice of the prize is enter your details below.
Our celebratory offer is open for 48 hours, and will close 3pm AEDT 23 February 2017. After that, we’ll see how many members have entered, then slice up the prize into even amounts. For example if 10,000 members enter, each will receive 700 Velocity Points.
So the question now is how big will the slice be?

Warning: you are consenting to receive promotional material.

Go on, enjoy your 6 or 7 points....

Considering I dont get promo, statements, Happy Hour or any other emails at all, it'll be interesting to see if I start getting emails.

Looks more like a scam to me. Nothing on the VA or velocity webpages or links that you would normally see.

It's not a scam, the official Virgin account on twitter is promoting it.
It's a genuine - if unrewarding - promotion.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

This is from the official Velocity and Virgin official facebook pages. It's not a scam, good to check though, can't fault you there.

I should also mention this promo/webpage is copping a lot of flak from IT knowledgeable and cautious facebook users. My favourite comment is 'A site setup in Singapore a week ago, your IT department must fly by the seat of their pants' hahaha

This isn't correct.

It's legitimate.

You'll see info on the Virgin Facebook site.

Don't expect to get many points though as it's all over Ozbargain.

Not worth selling my personal details to overseas organisations for a possible less than 700 points - this is all over ozbargain so imagine it will be hit hard >10000 applicants

Interesting promotion, depending on how many points we all receive, it'll show how many active (and engaged with social media) members there are of the program, something I'm sure they'd rather keep private? Still, a nice way to keep my account ticking along.

Also no need to try signing up the kids accounts as this promo seems to be for 18 and over. Not sure what would happen if you changed the DOB on the promo as they say they match the details up with your account.

There is now a link on the Velocity website to the Facebook page for this offer.

Edit: The DOB field has been removed from registration page. I may now enter the draw.

interesting promotion.. will be interesting to see how many points people get... kind of feels like a reverse pyramid scheme :s

This assumes the number of points awarded accurately reflects the number of people to sign up and there's no fudging.

Sounds like a great way to run a 'viral' social marketing campaign. Reward people for 'sharing' by giving them *less* points...

I guess that seems consistent with the way they run/maintain their websites too :p

it's now been posted onto the american blogs as well

let's take a poll on how many points we expect to get out of this ...

50 points each.... equivalent to what I would get from putting in 25L of fuel at BP...at least it would be times two as I entered my partner too ;)...Perhaps most velocity members are not as tragic as us tho... here's hoping!

You need to be a member to get the points and you cannot join from USA ....

my guess would be around the 40 points each :p if not more ......

If just over 10% of the VFF membership respond then the payout will be under 10 points each. Hopefully most will do the numbers and not bother and therefore the payout will get into double figures.

It is an interesting experiment in marketing on social media (although it is now out in the mainstream media). Those taking it as a 'serious' points paying promotion will obviously be disappointed. But as 99.9% of Facebook etc is worthless garbage, what did they expect?
