That's one of the things I fear breaking the most...landed quite hard on it once and by God it hurt, ever since I've been petrified of breaking it!

Just clicked over 80,000 Qff points for the first time. That psychological 100,000 mark looming ever closer.

Nothing compared to most here (especially WP...that 100% bonus is good!) but for a uni student who has racked up all but a handful from flying I like to think I earned them :)

But then again who really cares about the QFF balance when I hAAve 150,000-odd miles elsewhere ;)

Although I'm saving them up. For some reason bossreggie's various mentions on the forum of being nice to your mother have stuck with me, so I've decided that I'll take her to the USA in First for her 60th birthday in a couple years time if she doesn't get to go before then. Pressure is on Dad to take her now, I guess :D

I am starting to worry about both.

Qantas management is intent on winding up operations and handing over to JQ.

And I knew about the AA and US merger but I thought AA was the dominant partner but now it looks to be the other way. I have not been following any of the threads but I have just over 170,000 AA miles which is ~2.5 business returns to Asia or ~2 business returns to Europe if one ever finds availability. I would hate to think of the conversion rate to US DM miles but anything less than 1 AA mile -> 1.5 US DM miles would be a mini catastrophe.

So much for hoarding points.

Earn & burn....thats the way to go.

I really hope you've reconsidered the goal of achieving 1,000,000 OF points!

I can't. What do you recommend I spend them on? BNE-SYD returns? That would make my saving feel all the more worthwhile.

Just been catching up on this news

I might have to bring this trip forward a lot sooner than I thought...which is a problem as I don't have the money to do it (or the miles x2 pax).... :|

FWIW, I recently burnt 2 x 60K QFF points and $600 all up on SYD-xMEL-HKG rt (earning ~320 SC's and ~25K QFF). [2 Bookings, both JASA's]

With the new Asia deal I had to make some adjustments - then saw P available one way for another $250, so It's First one-way and earning 340SC's and 27K QFF. [JASA + $250 = FASA]

It's out there if you plan and look.

I have 5 days ex HKG to explore the regions new oneworld/EK lounges :D.

I know what you are saying but for a few more QFF points I can do a Oneworld award with 5 stopovers visiting cities I have never visited.

The current QF airares ex-SIN are ~AUD600 and feels like a waste to use points.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I was going to say fly F.....however, these days to Asia thats purely on BA. QF is fast = loser IMHO.

I'd burned them in F or J.....that should see you sorted!

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Same price ex BNE via SYD at present, much like the last sale.
On Expedia? The lead in price on QF website is $799 and I do not like the restriction of sale airfares during so-called "peak" periods.

Expedia elsewhere ;), given you can get J for $600 each way it's not too bad but makes LCC look average.

I don't know where you see business class airfares for $600 each way but the $600 in economy (including golf clubs) makes Scoot, Air Asia and JQ look extremely average....

To maintain status, I need SC's - I'll earn the same SC's for this trap as I would for 15 round trip discount economy SYD/BNE journeys in about 10% of the time.

I'm confused. How do you upgrade a JASA to a FASA for $250??

Sure, but a oneworld award with 5 stops still isn't a shabby way to go.

It amazes me now how if there is no ASA then there is no award, period. Like somehow Classic Awards have ceased to exist to be useful at all.

Definitely a good idea if you have the points to burn and are not already committed to 15 round trip discount economy SYD-BNE trips....

I've done almost exactly the same as you and booked 2 x rtn JASA's SYD-MEL-HKG. Out Dec back Jan. Nested in the middle are 2 x F AAwards Asia 2 to North America, and couple of YUPP's.
Great points deals out there if you are quick off the mark at booking time :)

It's not recent! Since major changes around the turn of the century, economy classic awards have not generally been good value for me when compared with revenue bookings.

By far the majority of my points expenditure last decade was on upgrades. Until ASA's became eligible for earn these upgrades were the sweet spot for value.

Which is fine, though suffice to say I hope you judiciously remembered to emphasise the for me part. Economy Classic Award bookings can still make some sense if the travelling group is greater than one person, because although the cash cost can be high, the cash saving occupied by the points, though on a rate basis still not good value, starts to add up for multiple travellers (on an absolute basis rather than a relative one).

In any case, who is to say JohnK was going to cash them in on a Economy one? If he opted for a Business award, the value is definitely there, so again - it doesn't mean that because it's not the sweet spot of redemptions it is not necessarily completely redundant. And as I said again in another thread, if EK awards (i.e. EK Classic Awards) were offered without YQ, I'll take a F Classic Award over a F Any Seat Award any day, just to get that seat. That's a fair compromise IMO.

Do tell…
Surely couldn't compare to this incredible display of stupidity (bordering on criminal given the kid in the vehicle):
Condamine River Flood and V8 Going Through - YouTube

Video seems to have disappeared. This is a story for real life. But wouldn't want to do it with a kid.

 You've lost me there, I thought you said you wouldn't waste points on SYD-BNE trips....
