Last year in Italy, I created a new user profile in Netflix, signed in with a device I hadn't previously had Netflix on, and watched Italian Netflix.

Back home in Australia, when I use that new user name - I still have Italian Netflix.
Which would be handy for older relatives or people studying Italian.

Which makes me wonder if this works for other countries - like the USA for example ( The famous Dave Chappelle "Sticks and Stones" program isn't on my Netflix).

Has anybody tried this with other countries they visited?
Regards,
Renato

I know that if I use my Australian Netflix account when overseas, the catalogue of shows changes based on the country I am in (happened in Singapore, UK, Hong Kong, USA, Spain). Also a friend visiting from the USA used her US netflix account whilst in Australia on my wifi connection (without a VPN to mask location) and she was also limited to aussie shows until she left. So its interesting that Italian Netflix catalogue sticks with Italy.

Generally people wanting to get an overseas catalogue need to use a VPN to simulate physical presence in the relevant country.

Thanks for that useful information.
Not worth flying to US to get their Netflix then.

I forgot to mention one thing that may explain the sticking - I left that user profile there with my cousin, who uses it occasionally.

Yep that is likely the case.

ive found that netflix originals are consistently available across all countries, its only other content they stream that changes from region to region. Same thing happens with my Amazon Prime account.

That said if you dont want to use a VPN, you can download shows whilst overseas if you keep your device in flight mode back in Aus or on the plane you can watch that content until it expires or they work out you are back in Aus.

Also there is a lot more content available on Netflix and Prime than shows up when scrolling through the shows they choose to promote. I read an article a few weeks ago with cheat codes for searching for foreign language content locally etc. You can also change the language setting on your aussie account so origiinal foreign sound is heard rather then english dubbed version is an overseas netflix title.

I assume no-one flies to the US to get their Netflix!

As per Lynda2475's advice, they just sign up to a VPN service (there are many), and turn it on and select the country you want to "pretend" to be in, before launching the Netflix app. This gives access to the content of the country you select (and when travelling overseas, you can select an Australian location to give access to the material on Australian Netflix).

Thanks to the both of you.

Seems like I'll have to experiment with various VPN locations and see if I can achieve the same outcome as I got from flying there.

I use ExpressVPN for USA Netflix. They have an excellent “live chat“ if something goes awry

The Netflix geoblock is silly because you can use your Australian CC as payment.

When GoT was on via Hulu IIIRC, expressvpn would work but the Aussie CC was not accepted during signup process

So you use the app you use in Australia but change the country settings somehow?

Edit - worked out you needed to sign in with different account. Streaming to TV now too. I have so many things I need to watch I need to live to be 1000!

I used PayPal to sign up - maybe that tricks it of there’s a CC issue.

Have never tried PayPal in this case

The ExpressVpn account is used in different ways depending on device. On an iDevice/smartphone and computer the ExpressVPN allows you to select a certain server in the particular country you want

On an Internet capable smart TV, ExpressVPN gives the account holder a specific IP address to use. This IP address is inserted via settings in the TV

I believe you need to sign up to the USA netflix = pay monthly fees in USD. Not an Aust Netflix and Pretending to be in USA with VPN. I don’t have Aust Netflix Account to test this.

If you binge watch you can reduce the lifespan required to about 300

Yes, just signed up for US one - currently for free. It’s a bit slow, challenging my speed I think.

Forgive me Pushka if I have misunderstood you. You don't need to sign into Netflix with a different account from a regular Australian one. To get the Netflix menu of another country, use a VPN to 'locate' yourself there, then sign into Aussie Netflix account as usual and it will give you the show menu of the VPN country. I understand some VPNs work better than others and you will lose some download speed.

My story: When I was in India, being driven a few hours to the airport I decided to download some shows to watch on the plane home. Used my VPN to put me in the USA and started downloading. It was pretty slow, so I turned the VPN off and continued to download a couple of episodes.

On the plane, I discovered the first episode was fine, but the others were in ... Hindi!!

So using an Australian Netflix account (paid in AUD) with a VPN virtualising me in the USA will give me USA Netflix?

Yes. I started a thread a year ago and discovered this

EDIT: I understand not all VPS work like this. NordVPN works OK.

There’s nothing in the App that allows you to do this and I couldnt find anything online. That would be great!

Maybe these two threads can be merged.
It would be better for me to close the USA account and open an AU account due to exchange rate pressures.

Actually, we've gone off this thread topic. Renato was talking about the reverse situation. Being able to get an overseas account's shows when back in Australia. I'm not sure how that happens - I can't see Italian cousin's use affecting his.

Maybe it is the country pair that is the determining factor.

IT-AU //AU-IT no problem (or at least not as much geoblock compared with AU-US//US-AU

Question is whether IT-US exhibits any geoblock.
