Planning a trip around Easter next year for the family with 1xWP, 1xSG and 3 x Red. The Elevate fares are $100 more per seat than the Getaway for each sector so that's $1000 more just for the extra bonus points and not much else.
Am I reading this right? Doesn't sound like it's worth the extra dollars.
Why did I try so hard to get the WP when this is the reward?

Yes, you're reading it right. If you're looking at SC to $ value it's actually a better deal for most sectors. Since I have to fly on the cheapest flights due to policy, it's worse for me. To retain I'll have to either fly double as many flights or fly on self funded elevate/flexi. I'm not happy about it and if I can't retain status this membership year with my usual travel patterns I'm moving most flights to Qantas.

Sometimes the promotion codes also take 10% off Getaway fares. ;)

I recently purchased a SYD-BNE Getaway airfare for ~$92. Elevate was some obscene amount. Think almost double. No thanks.

150 status credits plus an extra 3421 points(WP and SG bonus) for $1000

Don't forget to account for the extra 5 points per dollar.

In any case I would book Elevate if, and only if, the extra status credits would push you over the line for Gold or Platinum status, and you otherwise would not be able to get there.

The extra points would not be worth even close to $1,000.

It's a bit of an annoying earning structure as I imagine most work flyers have a lowest fare policy. Even booking only a week in advance I find Virgin seems to have Getaway fares available.

I'm a NR with plans to book MEL-BNE Rt 1st - 4th July with only a measly 35 SC's in the tank. Currently only Elevate fares @ $229 are available for the MEL-BNE leg at my preferred time of 12:00-2:10pm with plenty of Getaway fares available at $149.

Should I wait for a Sale to get 2 Getaway fares (preferred) or just book two Elevate fares through Flybuys Travel to offset to Max out on points?

Currently have close to 30k VA pts with a realistic goal of 70k for a MEL - VLI/NAN or even HKG by the end of the year.

Getaway direct gives 10 SC's, elevate 15. 2 x Getaway via, say, SYD gives 20.

With no status, you earn 5 pp$ on any domestic purchase. So, $1145 on the Elevate direct & 745 on the getaway.

Expect 2 x getaway via SYD to be $270+ in total.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
