From Business Traveller:

The Germanwings brand will cease to exist from this autumn.
The Lufthansa short-haul subsidiary will take on the new branding of Eurowings.

Lufthansa had been planning to abolish the Germanwings name at some stage in the future, even before the recent disaster in the French Alps

Thanks to Loyalty Lobby for the head's up.

Perhaps a more appropriate name for the airline.
I suspect some will think the change is due to the recent disaster.

Of course they had.

Actually I think I had heard this before the crash.

Just grabbing an opportunity. Can't say that it's a stupid thing to do...

No, a bit like Cootes transport slowly removing the names form their petrol tankers and always referring to themselves as parent McAleese.

"Tombstone management" I think it's called, when the tombstones are going in it's time to do something.

Exactly. We're an emotional species with a short term memory for actual facts.

I just booked a Germanwings/Eurowings flight. I was sent to the Germanwings website, where both the Germanwings and Eurowings logos (both in black and white, interestingly) were displayed prominently. My ticket bears only the Eurowings logo and the flight number is EW (Eurowings). Seems the name change is already well underway.

FWIW I do believe there were already plans to rebrand as Eurowings before the accident.

Supposedly a 'low cost' option from Aisa (DMK and HKT)... but their premium fare (or 'best class' as they call it) is running to as much as AUD3100 return in January (their premium class is pretty much same same as Jetstar 2-3-2)

This makes Sri Lankan, Viet Nam airlines and Air India all way cheaper. For a proper full flat bed.

When Eurowings calls it an 'exclusive' cabin... I pretty much reckon it will be... unless they lower their fares.

I will wait to see what the BEST zone actually looks like, but if it's anything like their short haul BEST class, it won't be anything special. Perhaps slightly more legroom and a slightly larger seat. FWIW I can see return BEST class seats for about AUD$1500 from Bangkok to Germany return. About half of what you have quoted, but in my view Sri Lankan etc. are still much more enticing options yes.

I guess I was looking at peak period... I grabbed the first dates I could find as their website was really slow at returning results.

Their long haul 'best class' pictures are on their website... seems to be the same as most LCC premium economines (not as good as Norwegian)... 2-3-2, 38 inch pitch and extra recline. Looks ok. (pictures can be found at this link... select 'long-haul' then about 1/3 the way down the page after the two economy cabin shots: https://www.germanwings.com/en/information/services/seat-reservations.html)

Their short haul is the same as most Euro short haul business classes - 3+3 with a spare seat in the middle.

$1500 return would be excellent value by the look of it!

Long haul it is supposed to be the same hard product as LH's new Business. Which (even as a self-confessed Lufthansa fan) is pretty cough for a 'new' product.

The seats are clearly premium economy - not lie flat. Unless they have plans to change that at a later stage.

German wings new brand Euro Wings

Flew German wings to DUS in May and noticed a newly branded plane, smart logo, green on white of Euro Wings.

Re: German wings new brand Euro Wings

Eurowings has been operating since 1994 as a regional airline and do fly flights on behalf of Germanwings. That being said though Eurowings is incorporating Germanwings into Eurowings by the end of 2015 to become a LCC since (October?) 2014. The new livery for Eurowings however I thought was more of a blue and purple on the tail with purple lettering on a white fuselage.
