General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

Received a call from our dentist this afternoon.. closing down.. all too hard.

What to do now.. this is stuff you don't think of….
Ditto, got a call late last week to say my dentist only doing emergency stuff. Might be waiting a while for my next routine checkup.

It was a decision to put level 3 restrictions on dentists so pretty much only emergency work could be done. No crowns or preventative work. There were concerns about aerosol secretions.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For those of you with a science background or interest, this is a great article.

Interesting back story to Kary Mullis (who, reputedly, had his PCR epiphany on a dark and stormy night drive in the Californian Sierra or such-like). The thermo-cycling key to making the process work efficiently using enzymes from those extremophiles was attributable to others. Nevertheless, a Nobel Prize went his way in 1993.

He died last year, but went on to believe in all sorts of weird cough - outlined, amongst others, in this book: The Intelligence Trap : David Robson : 9781473669857

It's also covered in his Wikipedia entry: Kary Mullis - Wikipedia. Pretty interesting reading.

There's a fine line between genius and weird in all fields of endeavour...

As a scientist who became increasingly p*ssed off with the grant-sucking, I like this line: Mullis was quoted saying "the never-ending quest for more grants and staying with established dogmas" has hurt science. He believed that "science is being practiced by people who are dependent on being paid for what they are going to find out," not for what they actually produce.

On the topic of grants, NHMRC has pulled some of the funding rounds this year due to the current climate.

Again all of my posts on this have agreed with what Steady said on the criminality link not being a valid one and so I am not sure why your post has been directed at myself? Maybe I have missed something?

Sorry, that connection not intended. It was a general statement, with the post poorly constructed.

I see half the harbour bridge and part of Cahill Expressway and don’t notice as much traffic as in the past.
Webcams were a craze i recall many years ago, wondering if there are cams around Syd one can view

There are thousands of webcams viewable on line - I haven't got bored enough yet to check all of them out

With my barbar closed I visited Shaver Shop and purchased clippers.

My hair is now 0.4mm long and the beard has gone. 🧔

This will allow me to wear a mask properly if required.😷

Sorry for scaring people but safety first.
Think husband is going to pick up some clippers . His hair does not lend itself towards being long

Hubby mentioned clippers last night so thanks for the reminder.

Shaved my head during my 6 month Africa trip in '89. Not doing it again, it wasn't a pleasant sight then, and would be a lot worse now. :)

As an aside it was a pain sleeping under a mozzie net as when the hair grew back, the stubble got caught in the mesh. :)
