That graph shows you how bad the UK are going as they are only just below Sweden, but are meant to be actively trying to control the virus wheras Sweden is only mildly attempting to do so.

Graph is on the link below:

PS: If you change the country on the interactive graph to the United States you can see that they are not heading in a good direction!

This was a really really bad look in SA media tonight. A Covid patient from Ruby Princess whom I gather was on death’s door having spent the last 2 months in RAH, in an induced coma etc etc finally left Royal Adelaide Hospital today. He walked out but exited in a wheelchair. And as he left two nursing people bent down and he kissed each one. We groaned.

No need to groan, of all the people there he would most likely be the one that they would have had the most confidence in to not be infectious.

PS: Nursing people = nurses ;)

Totally disagree. Wrong message. Everyone needs to socially distance. Regardless of the circumstances. And certainly, as of course Nurses are people (like my SIL 😉) if they decided it was ‘safe’ (and that too is an assumption) it should never have occurred in front of a camera.

Yes, we're right proper screwed here aren't we? :)

Any hopes of getting to Australia for Christmas continues to dwindle, that was a nicely priced ex-ARN fare with QR to PER. Coming from 2 of the worst countries.... where one is likely to still have a lockdown in place. Isn't life grand!

It does surprise me they didn't use actual Payroll info that gets automatically transferred to the ATO on every pay lodgement which would have given a better estimate of people going to be on this system. Then add in a factor for Sole Trader etc. But is seems like the two systems - JobKeeper portal and the STP payroll don't actually talk to each other.

But yeah, way to make bad news out of a good story. Hopefully this means they can keep it going longer now where needed.

I'm definitely much happier to see $60b under than $60b over...
But that’s not the point of it. The cost is not relevant at this time. The point is to protect the jobs and economy to be ready to restart and actually have businesses and workers still viable after lockdowns etc. If the economy recovers, the small (multi billion) price paid now (especially at 0.45% interest) will be amply rewarded in the next few years. Otherwise it will cost the economy and all of us much much more in the future.

Seems like the government has shot itself in the foot and been quite incompetent here.

How on earth do you reckon that? The JobKeeper program has been I think praised by all sides. How long it goes for is a matter of debate.

The $60 bill error came about only from those (few) employers, who in the box marked "Number of eligible employees" wrote "1,500", meaning the $ amount they were expecting per employee, rather than "1". So for every one employee, that's a $2.25 million dollar error [edit: per fortnight, for 6 months - that's a $27 million per single employee mistake!!], on their part. Now, I understand the form overall wasn't that straightforward, so I have sympathy for the employers, but the description of the box "Number of eligible employees" doesn't seem too ambiguous, so I can't see how it might be pinned on the Government as 'incompetent'.

It wasnt complex at all but bear in mind that small businesses pretty much had their world fall apart instantly, they were under significant stress as the JK wasnt implemented immediately, bills keep on coming in, staff to look after and an incredibly unique situation for all. So sometimes, sh$t happens.

...another article from the same author, this time the Caribbean

A classic and poignant quote "Western countries are exiting lockdown ruinously early because people want haircuts, or miss the pub. This is dumb."
