Garuda Indonesia Delays/Cancellations

Once again, flight GA716 from CGK (due to arrive MEL at 0900 this morning, Friday 26 December 2014) and the return GA717 from MEL to DPS have been cancelled.

This has occurred at least three times in the last few weeks. Is it due to low bookings or unavailability of a plane, and hence GA cancelling a flight the passengers from which can be accommodated on (for example) GA719 from MEL to DPS (although perhaps difficult today given that Boxing Day is a peak travel day)?

GA718, the 0730 arrival from DPS is cancelled this morning in MEL (Tuesday 24 September 2015) with the return GA719 normally due out at 0950 also not operating. This is also set to occur on Thursday 26 February.

Yesterday to and from MEL GA cancelled a return flight.

Is this due to increasing competition (from the promised AirAsia nonstops that so far have not had regulatory approvals) and consequently low bookings or does GA have a problem with aircraft availability?

Given that the Virgin Australia CEO has recently commented about how that airline will reduce its DPS flights (although carefully couched in words such as 'matching passenger demand'), it may be unsurprising that large lossmaking GA is minimising its flying.

This morning's timetabled 0700 arrival from DPS - GA718D - 'D' for 'delayed' - arrived MEL more than 13 hours late tonight at 2018. The return working, GA717A - presumably 'A' for 'altered' is shown as departing MEL at 2030 but it must be more like 2140 instead of 1635.

With four airlines competing nonstop on MEL- DPS, it sure is a busy route compared to even five years ago. As I said under VA delays recently, if rationality prevailed VA would be the first to pull out of this nonstop route.

Garuda is experiencing quite a spate of cancellations to and from MEL.

This morning, Monday 18 May 2015, GA716 from CGK has been cancelled as has the return GA717.

Tomorrow (Tuesday), GA718 from DPS, the normal 0700 arrival, is also 'getting the gong' as is the return GA719 to DPS while on Wednesday 20 May, GA716 from CGK and its return GA717, the 0930 hours departure to CGK are also cancelled.

Is this due to low bookings with the huge amount of competition on the MEL - DPS route with four operators (GA plus three others) offering nonstop flights?

Or is GA trying to rationalise its routes again following big losses?

Once again GA718, the 0700 arrival from DPS into MEL and its return GA719 have been cancelled this morning (28 May 2015.)

With DPS' reopening today after the repeated volcanic eruptions, flight GA714D (A330 PK-GPW) is winging its way to SYD where it will arrive at around 2220 tonight (Saturday 11 July.)

Unusually the return working tomorrow, GA715 has been altered to depart at 0605 in lieu of 1025, so let's hope all those delayed passengers have their alarm clocks or smartphone alarms changed to ensure they rise in the 'small hours.'

This rescheduling is most likely because GA, like JQ and VA, has a largish transport task ahead in the next few days in airlifting many hundreds (for each airline, in each direction) of passengers who have been unable to board a flight to or from DPS and GA wants to increase its aircraft productivity. Given that it is school holidays' conclusion, there are probably more delayed passengers southbound than northbound.

GA718 arrived MEL ex DPS at 0847 this morning, 47 minutes late. As a result GA719 has been delayed from 1000 to an expected 1100.

Due to what may have been fog in MEL early on Saturday 5 December, GA716 from CGK to MEL remains in a holding pattern, roughly above St Arnaud (Vic) at 0922 depsite being due in MEL at 0900. MH149 had diverted to ADL and one QF flight ex SYD has already diverted to CBR.

Im hoping for fog at MEL when we arrive on QF94 in January as our final destination is SYD. Fog in MEL can mean a divert to SYD for the semi ultra long haul 94.

This happened last year and QF were able to get a bus to the remote stand and get us and 7 others off. Our 10x33 kg bags went via MEL and was delivered to us the next day without us having to pick up at SYD nor battle quarantine, maybe Channel 7 border security and we were able to get home in 1 cab instead of the usual 2.

Hoping for the same again.

Cruiser Elite, just so you know, a separate thread exists for the 'volcano-related disruptions' but thankfully (to coin an extremely bad pun) the thread is currently 'dormant.'

For the sake of thousands of holidaymakers, let's hope the Good Lord decides not to initiate any 'volcanic activity' close to Christmas.

Quickstatus, it was quite obvious this morning that QF94 was given priority as I assume given its extremely long sector length it has a very limited amount of fuel that it can carry for unexpected eventualities.

Due to the savage SYD storms on Wednesday 16 December 2015, GA713, the 1130 from SYD to CGK did not take off until 1737 hours this afternoon with arrival expected five hours and 25 minutes behind time at 2020. The plane is A332 PK-GPS, so obviously it never has any directional problems (well...)

GA716, the 0900 hours 17 December arrival in MEL from CGK (A332 PK-GPO) is not expected to arrive until 1008. As the return GA717 is a 1430 hours timetabled departure, that should be fine.

A332 PK-GPM on the Wednesday 23 December 2015 GA718 took off 91 minutes after its timetabled pushback time of 2305 so is about to be in MEL at just before 0900 hours, about 90 minutes late. While the Melbourne Airport - Flight Information, Shopping & Parking site does not show the return flight, GA719, as delayed (due out at 0950) it will almost certainly be, but hopefully by only 15 - 20 minutes.

The Wednesday 17 February arriving GA718 ex DPS is two hours late and will arrive MEL at 0930. This will delay the scheduled 0950 hours returning GA719 to at least a 1035 amended departure.

On Monday 2 May 2016, GA717 (1025 hours SYD - DPS) was airborne at 1057 (nothing particularly unusual) but presumably due to headwinds is cruising at 368 knots across central Australian and hence should be about 50 minutes late arriving at 1530. Aircraft is A333 PK-GHA.

On Thursday 5 May 2016, GA715, the 1025 SYD - DPS was not airborne until 1148. Arrival should be at about 1615 compared with the schedule of 1440 hours. Aircraft is A333 PK-GPZ.

GA716, the 0800 hours Saturday 14 May 2016 arrival in MEL ex CGK is not expected to arrive until 1050. However GA717Z back to Jakarta does not depart until 1330 so it should still be on time. Not sure why it has a 'Z' suffix.

GA716 ex CGK will again be delayed into MEL on Thursday 19 May, with arrival at about 0835, 35 minutes behind time. Aircraft is A332 PK-GPQ.

Friday 20 May 2016 sees GA715, the 1025 SYD - DPS (A333 PK-GPY) having taken off at 1056 but not expected to arrive until 1530 hours, 50 minutes late.
