With the spectacularly poor 737 J class product offered by QF that just barely shades the similar offering on JQ's Dreamliner, i have been looking at alternatives.

I understand that AFF has talked about other options including EK over AKL and that there is also QF/3K over SIN (which I have done many times before QF went direct agan). The problem with these compared to QF/JQ is that they involve stopovers and extended travel time and cost more.

Is anybody able to give feedback on GA's direct A330-300 J Class that I believe has lie flat beds. The fares i researched also seem comparable with QF/JQ

Have a look on the current ABT where they have an article on the cancellation of GAs CGK-LHR flights and the allocation of their aircraft to MLB-DPS. The headline to look for is Garuda axes London B777-300ER flights.

Never flown J, but I am sure I have read plenty of favourable reviews online about it. I have never bothered pursuing it as the redemption rates are quite high ( from memory) and when i made some enquiries I could never find a seat.

Thanks, but I was looking at paying and maybe joining their FF program.. i go there twice a year and am fed up with the QF product on this route . QF's displays of contempt and disregard to someone that has given them loyalty for so many years is another factor

me too, but If i was flying GA, I would probably pass the points onto a partner. Just too many things overall dont make it a good deal - like ability to earn additional points, short expiry, whenver I looked. They occasionally have some pretty good specials though

I have not nothing against GA, its just that I cant fly there direct, so I usually go by SQ or VA. Its one stop no matter what airline I choose :)

GA has the best product by far. Superb soft product. Their hard product can be variable - angled-lie flats, recliner full flats (standard recliners that convert, somewhat awkwardly, to full flat beds, a bit similar to the QF skybed II), and hard-shell full flats. While the angled lie-flats aren't ideal, their 60 inch pitch beats the 37 inches on a QF 737. If they are going to full flats on the MEL route that would make them the winner hands-down.

Just joined Garudamiles FF program and about to book return J for myself and Mrs Popeye .. very similar in price to QF and JQ but on the A330-300 lie flat beds compared to QF's domestic J class seats and JQ'..... well you know what that product is like .... will see how it goes

GA J product SYD/MEL-DPS is so superior to alternatives it ain’t funny - hard and soft product - it’s a no-brainer - I would fly them in a heart beat - level of service from crew exceptional - the Billiecart-Salmon Brut Rose they serve in J is quite delectable.
 
GA offer a pretty good product from MEL/SYD-DPS in J and after having done a couple of trips with them I wouldn’t hesitate using them again. I haven’t got any SkyTeam status but will look at doing the Delta status match in a months time and credit the points over to there
