Hi all
I have been considering a classic award return trip to Japan ex MEL for some time in the future.
Until now I had the impression that Japan Airlines had no fuel surcharges or at least low ones. In part this was inspired by comments in this article.
Qantas Frequent Flyer Cheat Sheet: Make the Most of Your Qantas Miles | MileCards.com
However to test out the waters I used the online webchat today and asked the agent to advise what the taxes and charges would be Mel-Tokyo flying one way on 23 April 2018. She quoted $336.54 of which $200 was fuel surcharges.
However when I did a dummy booking with Qantas the taxes and charges there were $288 (25/4/2018) which included $180 fuel surcharges.
So it appears that JAL charge more than Qantas?
Can someone please tell me whether the advice I have received from Qantas is correct or not, and if not, what the correct taxes and charges would be for a round trip ticket MEL-Tokyo in business class on JAL?
Thanks Peter
