I have a flight booking to Bali on Jetstar. As I had to postpone the trip for work and I can't cancel it, someone else might at least use our 2 booked XL seats.

So if anyone of you is booked on JQ35 (Sun 10th Jun) or JQ44 (Mon 18th Jun), just send me a private message and I will let you know of the seat numbers. You would just check-in with your assigned seats and then sit on ours. Worst that could happen is that they ask you to move to your assigned seats.

Not a great idea - as it could cause trouble for those who take your seats.

Being no-shows, JQ would remove you off the pax list.

As I wrote: Do at your own risk. What kind of trouble other than being asked to move seats could happen? If you are more risk-averse just ask politely and explain that a friend couldn't make it. Then they can make sure you get the appropriate safety briefing.

Doesn't work like that, if you don't turn up, they WILL give your seats to other people. Especially on heavily booked DPS flights.

The fare might not be cancellable in the sense it has no value but won't you get the taxes back if you cancel?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

At what stage CAN they give away our seats. Does Jetstar overbook? What would happen if I checked in online? That way they wouldn't know that I am a no-show until after boarding has been completed. And as we would have no baggage, this shouldn't cause any disruptions. Jetstar doesn't wait for late passengers AFAIK. Assuming that online check-in is even possible.

This is quite theoretical anyways, as the chance that one of our fellow passengers reads this is slim.

Thanks. The only tax I can find on the receipt is a departure tax of $120 and a quick Google search revealed that Jetstar can be quite stingy with a refund and might even charge a processing fee. As the ticket has been reimbursed by my wife's employer anyways, it's not worth the hassle. Just thought I could do something nice for some fellow traveller. But seems to be not that easy :)

They can give your seats away at anytime they feel like, even now if they wanted. Checking-in online is just flippant and disrespectful to everyone else on board especially when they attempt to find you.

Haha we can agree on that Jetstar can and will do all kind of customer unfriendly shenanigans. Let me rephrase: At what point would they have a valid reason to give away our seats, if we checked in online? I don't think online check-in is possible to Bali, but I also don't think it would disruptive to the flight, as Jetstar being Jetstar, they don't wait for you if you don't show up on time without checked bags.

For the case, that we don't check in: One could approach the gate agent and ask for a seat change after check-in has been closed, knowing that we won't show up. I don't have any experience with that, but maybe there is a chance.

Let's put it this way, both those flights are 100% full in Y. I can guarantee you 100% JQ will give those seats to someone else, even if it is last minute.

There is a thing in the airline industry called 'Staff Travel', all of these will be on standby until there is a free seat. These seats will be taken one way or another. Or if it's not due to staff, it will be due to commercial passenger oversales.

I will put it out there, I am not sure why this thread hasn't been locked.

I don't see it in the interest of anyone to leave it open.
