Any recent experencies here?

Looking for wireless Internet as part of the rate.

Was at Intercon Sydney recently and not even offered throughout the hotel, only at the business centre. Surprising given eminent status.

IC Syd gives free net to Ambassadors on best flex. To be frank, why not grab a dongle for @24.50 when they have it on sale at coles etc, they often come with 3 or 5Gb start up allowance, or go to maccas!

Thnxs they didn't offer nor did I ask!!

I have an Ipad. Do have air card for other laptop but find the iPad more convenient.

Ah, the inverse laws of hotels and internet.

Expensive hotel = less likely to have free internet.

Cheap hotel, likely to be complimentary.

You could always wander around town and find somewhere with free wifi (? mcdonalds?)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

HHonors Golds and Diamonds get free high speed internet for the duration of their stay.

Hyatt has a similar thing for its Gold Passport elites. I think Marriott might have a similar thing going, too.

In general, finding free internet at a hotel in Australia without utilising elite status is stupefyingly difficult. If you want piece of mind, you're better off finding an alternate plan (e.g. a dongle, or use a public space wifi).

However, using the power of Google and associated linkage, I found the following hotels (probably more, maybe) that claim to offer free internet (wireless). I take no responsibility for the quality of said hotels in the list.
  • Brisbane
    • Chester's Hotel (Fortitude Valley)
    • Soho Hotel (Brisbane)
    • The Limes Hotel (Fortitude Valley)
  • Hobart
    • Hotel Collins (Hobart) - apparently their free wifi only covers the ground floor, however
    • Grosvenor Court Apartments (Sandy Bay, not Hobart CBD) - booking.com claims this property has free internet, however the website can't confirm this (it only says it has internet facilities available)

Thnxs good leg work

Then spend $99+ on a Wifi 3g modem... they're available.

Free Wifi is quite low on the list when I choose a hotel - location, bed and service is much higher.

As DocJames says:
