Hi all, I'm still a newbie but I love this forum and the insightful answers and suggestions that are given by the knowledgeable ones, I check regularly and have picked up many tricks and tips.
Now for my question/s - I was notified this afternoon that I have won a prize which is a trip for 2 to London & Paris. The prize is 2 x return economy flights (bummer!) + 4 nights accommodation in both London & Paris with transfers and Eurostar between London & Paris. The prize value is stated as $8,000, and it was suggested to me that it may need to be taken by the end of the year.
The above details are all that I have at this stage. My wife and I are obviously very excited at having one the prize, who wouldn't want to win a free trip!
So, I may be jumping the gun thinking about all this before I get further details but my questions are;
1. How can/ should I convince the prize giver to put me on Qantas or a Oneworld carrier so that I can use points to apply for an upgrade. Further, I am Qantas gold so the lounge access etc with Oneworld will be advantageous.
3. Can Qantas points be used for upgrades on other Oneworld airlines?
2. How can I ensure that they book me a ticket that is upgradeable ie not a sale fare?
I do have a bad back and so the thought of spending that much time in economy scares me! As noted above, I'm happy to use my points or possibly cash to pay the difference
I'm hoping that they may just say that the accommodation cost/ alowance is $xx and therefore the airfares allowance is $xx and so you can get the best you can for that.
I know that this is all a bit vague at the moment but I'm excited so any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
