I was just speaking to Mrs GPH and she informs me that some friends she made while overseas last year, have invited her to meet up in Guadeloupe.
she may not go as it is a bit out of left field, but I wonder if anyone here has been to Guadeloupe , and has any tips or advice on how best to get there?

as a broader discussion topic, what experiences does anyone have traveling to other places in this part of the world?

The wiki page lists airlines and destinations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointe-à-Pitre_International_Airport#Airlines_and_destinations

That might provide a starting point for putting together an itinerary. You can get there from Miami on either AA or AF, or various French carriers intra-region, or from France.

As an add-on MIA-PTP looks around USD500. Around USD400-700 round-trip from Paris on a low cost carrier. (source googlefligths, searching for April)

Horrendously expensive on a single ticket from Australia.

Wonder what the QF points would be for booking an AA flight to there??

the distance is 1376 miles.

looking at AA.com there seems to be seats on 8 april, then nothing until the end of June for sAAver awards in coach. (nothing in business sAAver)

It appears AA don't go to either PTP in Guadeloupe or nearby FDF in Martinique however Mrs GPH could always use QF points to fly MIA/SXM 18,000K points plus USD5.60 one way or 36,000K points plus USD74.47 then purchase a fare on Air Antilles Express (3S) SXM/PTP via Dominica.

Looking at FlightStats - Global Flight Tracker, Status Tracking and Airport Information on arrivals and departures for PTP the majority of flights seem to be from FDF & SXM with a few wildcard entries like Air Transat (TS) from YUL or Norwegian Air Shuttle (DY) from JFK.

Beautiful place!! sometimes they have decent prices to get there from Paris on like a tourist airline like CorsAir...only 6h flight from Paris...on points with SkyTeam AirFrance miles is an option from Paris also...

Bit OT but how about Gold Coast to Brisbane or Maryborough to Hervey Bay? Have done both these in years long past on commercial RPT flights.

AA does fly to PTP as per my posts above - they even have award space.

I was searching the QF site looking for classic/partner awards between MIA and PTP and it's not an option online. They may be able to do it over the phone or you would need to use AA miles or some other ff program.

I just booked a bunch of AA award flights... none showed on line on QFFF and even calling QF, the call centre could only see individual flights (no connections). QF call centre could see connections once you fed individual segments to build an itinerary.

Ha ha. I just stumbled across this thread. I have planned something WAY more exiting for my next trip, but keeping this on the back burner still.

It is beautiful there...sometimes you can actually book quite cheap cash prices departing from Paris! and then use points to go to USA from there if you want to go further west...or vise versa...it's a domestic flight from Paris so you do not even have to show your passport;) Same with La Reunion...

Thank you for that info. I will join them on next year's trip, and ex Paris is perfect.

For future reference Mr & Mrs GPH, just check google flights to start. See what's available to the destination. Kind of do a reverse search. It may not be everything, but it should begin to point you in the right direction.

Especially regarding who flies there, timings and relative $$
