Hi All!

Will be taking my first trip on SQ soon since 2007.. :)

Was planning to go to India soon for a few weeks, however QF's pathetic availability and frequency is quite poor.
QF's website was quoting no seats left on QF flights to mumbai, and even through codeshare partners QF were quoting $4900 for economy seat one-way!!
Yet if I was to book directly through their codeshare partners website, they have plenty of availability and prices were normal?

In the end SQ had great price $1200 return so have booked with them, will be interesting to compare them to QF.

I've also decided to not renew my QP membership..right now..considering all the recent 'changes'. I may subscribe in future again, before my next qantas flight..lets see.

Will be flying on a variety of metal, 773, 772, A380.
Although no lounge access with SQ :(

So will enjoy my Y flight with SQ?

Just remember you’ll have to pay the joining fee again in the future if your membership lapses, or another 90th birthday sale doesn’t come along ;)

Am aware of that but not too worried, as I normally join via the Corp Scheme and I won't have any months of wasted QP this way, as I don't plan to fly on QF again til around jan-feb 2011.

Yes, but the main differentiation between Sq and Qf is in the premium classes where Sq, imo, is much superior in service, food and hard product. I find Y in both to be similar, altho I personally find the service on Sq in Y a little more attentive than on Qf. I also prefer the more Asian style food on Sq than the rubbish Neil Perry inspired food on Qf. In you are travelling Y on the SQ A380, try to get an upper deck seat on the side (seat A, C or H,K) (configuration is 2 4 2)

If you do not have status with QF then in my opinion there is not a lot of difference between SQ and QF flights. In saying that even if you have QF status you don't get that much more in flight other than perhaps a better seat and a possible greeting.

Overall the SQ experience is more than acceptable and I only had a couple of minor issues.

Before I lost weight I found the SQ seats a little narrower than QF and for some reason I cannot get used to the IFE on SQ (I have similar issues on CX) so do not bother with the IFE most of the time. You may find the SQ cabin crew are much friendlier than QF cabin crew.

I re-joined via my corporate scheme after letting QP lapse while on maternity leave in 2006. I had to pay the joining fee again. (Of course, your corp scheme may be different to mine, but you may have to fork out the extra $200 compared to renewing).

I am a QP/QF Silver so will miss out on a few things like priority check-in, extra baggage, lounge access, also no chance of Op-ups on SQ due to no status (got op-up to PE on QF A380 on my last trip), no points upgrades as no points.. oh well at least it will give me a good benchmark to compare airlines once I've flown SQ,

Does SQ have a lounge guesting policy? If so anyone flying SYD-SIN this week? :)

Perfectly alright in Y on SQ.. particularly on the A380 upper deck..

The 772 is pretty ordinary... but hopefully that is a shorter flight..

SQ offer (IMO) quite good deals on exit row seating through their website (paid AUD $68 for SYD-SIN on the 380 recently)... and of course if you have booked through them (as it seems you did) you would have been able to select a seat at time of booking..

What you want is someoene to guest you into the NZ lounge at SYD... better than the SQ one if you ask me... Sorry.. My travel for this year is done..... I'm hanging out for February....

It depends, I prefer the seats on the 772, I find them more comfortable a little more legroom, and if you prefer aisles - G seat being best in the 3-3-3 config as it has only 1 seat beside it and unlike the D seat no box intruding into legroom. IFE is nowhere as good as the 380, but on the 772's to India you should get upgraded IFE - which is AVOD and provides a limited subset of the 380 IFE offering.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Although no lounge access with SQ :(

There are some nice areas at Changi to relax that arguably have more comfortable seating than the lounges. In T2 there are some really comfy looking chairs out on the E pier, looks almost like a lounge. For food and drink also plenty of options at minimal cost. SIN is one airport where you can easily survive without lounge access. I do realise that doesn't help at the Indian & Australian ends though!
