Those paper planes remind me of a QF ad on TV some time ago...

Very little mention of his financial performance while at Virgin......yes he has been successful at hurting QF but VAs financial performance under JB says a lot

One point I would query is when the article talks about 25 July 2008 being the day Borghetti was "pipped at the post" for the top job however later on it's mentioned that "from the moment of his defection to Virgin in May 2010 he became Alan Joyce's worst nightmare".

If you are unceremoniously dumped by your employer for the top job in 2008, I hardly think that accepting a job with the competition two years down the track could seriously be classed as a defection.

Seen snippets of this story around the place. Haven't read this linked story in particular but if it picks up the quotes about providing great service by staff; tell him he's dreaming. The words I've read elsewhere in no way match my experience on VA. The staff at the coal face treat all customers as per the lowest common denominator.

It is just as well that we all see these things differently. My VA experience is obviously much better than yours and varies from good at worst to excellent at best.

I highly doubt there is an expectation he's to make huge profits at this point - just minimise losses. This is the aviation business after all.

His main stakeholders would be looking for long term market share to feed their international services and to continue to weaken Qantas which is going to take a ton of cash to prise away from them.
