Flying from LAX-SYD (for example) with minimal/no catering

I read a NoNews story this morning (not going to quote it - the rest of it was rubbish) that implied Qantas had several flights leave LAX with no food loaded (It clarified with "Snacks were served" and "$US50 food vouchers were given out at check-in")

Flying Los Angeles to Sydney - would you put up with no meals?

I realise there are precedents - eg the BA battle with caterers causing no meals LHR-SIN etc. But interested in what you would think....

I take everything I read in any news article with a block of salt. The only reason I can validly see that flight(s) would go uncatered is if they were positioning flights. I haven't heard any catering issues at LAX?

I heard this reported on the evening TV news the other evening. I must admit I was a bit surprised that Qantas would be able to put on extra flights and crews, but not food! I hope at least that the bar was well stocked :shock:

I agree. That's why I made it a more hypothetical question for people to answer.

At least two international flights covered the distance from the United States to Brisbane well below capacity, with one carrying a family of five plus 15 crew and another flying from Dallas with 92.

The Transport Workers Union's Darren Brown said it seemed crazy to send near-empty aircraft to Australia when hundreds of passengers remained stranded in LA.

But the spokeswoman said the flights were supplementary services, flown to clear the backlog of passengers in LA.

I agree that the story has inconsistencies. (AND has been updated since I saw it earlier to include PAX numbers - they were not there before). But it was a general question.
