I have no idea where to ask this question. My logic in asking here - most readers will have been in a lounge. Mods please feel to move.

All airlines have a policy. Qantas short version - “Travelling with a service dog Can I travel with my service dog? Service dogs or assistance dogs can accompany you free of charge. However, on international travel, service dogs are subject to entry permits and in some cases quarantine regulations. All dogs carried in the cabin as service dogs must be properly registered with the appropriate authority as a service animal. For more information see our Service Dog section.”

I have a French friend who fly’s with his service dog and is all over such rules/regulations.

Question: Does a service dog have lounge access if he flies International First/Business(always flown Economy)? I have never seen a service dog in any lounge. Has anyone seen one anywhere?

In the USA you certainly see service dogs in lounges and on board.Though at one AC they did knock back a service pig.

In Australia I see no reason how they can refuse a service dog(eg: guide dog) --- I am not talking about (mostly "Fake News") ESA's but appropriate working dogs. They are entitled to enter any business or place by law. Of course you hear the odd story about cabbies refusing to take guide dogs, which is against the law but I do not see why someone travelling with a guide dog could not access, for example, the QF F Lounge (or any other)

I must admit that, having thought about it, I've never seen one in Australia (dom or international) but then again I've never really been looking for them.

Of course in the USA "service animals" and ESA's are pretty common (and I'll leave further comment off :) )

Interesting question. Have to say while I've regularly seen service animals on domestic flights I've never seen any International nor any in Dom or Intl lounges.

[h=2]Chocolate Bouquets for MEL Flounge Angels. Only requirement for lounge entry - a absorbent mat now confirmed :) [/h]

I had a service dog "in training". We flew domestically a few times, qantas had no problems and went out of their way to help us. There was a lot of paper work to fill out prior to allowing him on board. He accompanied me into the qantas club lounge at both ends. They certainly are also allowed internationally as I was told by staff a bunch of them flew MEL-LAX for an event.

I'm guessing their passports don't work the Smart Gates !! Dept of Agriculture Website

Thanks for the link BD. Daughter used to work in Biosecurity but was on the export end and a friend of hers handles imports of race horses for the spring carnival. I never really thought much about service animals (though I notice the the website only refers to dogs - what about someone with a service duck (as has been mentioned in the US). Interesting that the dog must remain in isolation for 10 days on arrival.

I was hit (not financally) by the equine flu debacle ... can't say "bio-security" is something I consider a government capability after that.
