Flight search engines.

So what sites does everybody use to search for flights?
Im planning a holiday in august 2016 for 2ppl.
Syd-hkg 5/8
Hkg-mph (boracay)12/8
Mph-mnl 15/8
Mnl-syd 18/8

Some sites ive looked at only have one airline which doesnt give many choices lol
Expedia on the other hand is showing prices of $6000 and up for one person which is way to much money.

I guess what i really want is to maximise my qantas earning potential without getting ripped off.

I use my Travel Agent as my search engine . Can book sector/airline (airline alliance) combinations and mixed class itineraries that are not available on line. If something changes / airline cancels flight, the TA fixes it / finds substitutes. Cost no more than regular published fares, although sometimes airlines offer fares on-line that the TA cannot access.

I tell them what I want to do, and I ask for the cost of three separate ways to do it: Usually: dirt cheapest (usually least convenient); most convenient; using my preferred airline(s).

If you do go TA route make sure you instruct them exactly, and ask for comparisons, such as above. Otherwise they'll just give you what they think you want. If you don't have an existing relationship with a TA, don't expect them to give you full service off-the-bat.

Your itinerary isn't ideal for getting a return sale fare which will explain the nasty price. Additionally you may struggle to get airlines that fly to mph on which you would earn Qantas points.

If Qantas points are your priority, fly qf to HKG and back from mnl. One way cx HKG to mnl in a class that earns Qantas points. Then nest a PR return mnl-mph.

Personally I compare on skyscanner then book directly with airlines.

I suggest remove MPH from the itinerary and just price it to/from MNL (you will need to fly via MNL anyway) and the buy separate fares to/from MPH. Alternatively look at KLO also - if you can get directly into there it adds a 90min- 2hr bus transfer to get to Boracay. but may eliminate transfer in MNL.

MPH is really the limiting factor as only Philippine based airlines serve it.

I would think that the open-jaw for the SYD-HKG and MNL-SYD on one ticket and have the MPH flights on another ticket may reduce the cost of the flights for you.

First of all, what class are you wanting to fly in, as that may affect what you want to do, as I can find flights for $1,400, on the days you want.

I used a combination of both Qantas and then Phillipine Airlines Multi-city search tool

I did a dummy booking using QF's multi-city search tool. I placed in SYD-HKG and then MNL - SYD. For the MNL - SYD leg it was via SIN. This came in at AU$915
I then did a dummy booking with PR, I placed in HKG-MPH-MNL, HKG-MPH was via MNL, but it appears at least with PR there is no direct flights to MPH from HKG. This came in at HK$2,500, which is roughly AU$475.
This is all in Y. Yes it's two separate tickets, but with multiple days between the flights, you'll be fine.
