Whenever flying on a flexi fare I opt out of having a wrap for obvious reasons and usually go for a pack of the moorish nuts instead. On all of my previous flights this has been given to me for no price (probably about 20 flights) and I assume its because the FA's know that for frequent flyers the same poor quality wrap over and over is not acceptable. But on a recent flight a FA told me I would have to pay for this, I was unhappy but have her my credit card. Thankfully a notable australian sportsperson was sitting next to me and they asked to swap for something of the menu, the FA then gave my card back without charging it and gave both me and the person next to me free things of the menu. She then informed us that most FA's won't do this.
I then told her she was in the minority.

But anyway my question is what is the policy on meals for flexi fares. What is to be paid for an what is free?

*this flight is under 2.45 hours

Pretty sure you can technically only swap stuff for dietary reasons,( eg given flexi beef wrap, your a vego and you request an egg sandwich off the retail menu ) i guess any goodwill from crew is a bonus
Complimentary Non alcoholic drinks can be had anytime with free beer and wine available after 4pm

Last Thursday on the 5:10pm ADL-MEL a colleague asked to do exactly the same thing - she was initially refused. Oddly it was only as I was handed my Flexi 'meal' and I asked about why a substitution couldn't take place that then the FA capitulated and said she'd make an exception.

My colleague hadn't taken the option of an alcoholic drink for instance, so it all seemed a little short-sighted and penny-pinching.

I think that, in part, it depends on the FA handing over the flexi "meal". I have been told in very definite terms that there is no option, yet on other occasions I have been able to swap. YMMV

This is correct. If you are flying on a flexi fare, you will receive a meal which is separate to the retail cart. We only offer the retails cart if the guest is a vegetarian (or the like).
