Flat beds on MH A380?

I've read quite a lot of conflicting information about the business class seats on the A380 and am hoping someone on AFF can share their experience.

I know the A330s that MH operate to/from Australia have angled lie-flat seats. I'm thinking this might be okay for a trip to Europe if the connecting A380 to/from LHR has the full lie-flat seats. Some reviews I've read have referred to the A380 seats as fully lie flat, some have said they are nearly full lie flat (with a slight drop at the end), and yet the MH website and other reviews state the seats are angled lie flat. Does anyone know for sure

I know they say its fully flat, but on both my flights, the foot rest area of the seat was not fully flat, and drooped down to the floor. I noticed this was the same on the seat next to mine as well. Not 100% fully flat in my books as it can be a awkward for sleeping, but good value for the price.

The business class seats on the A380 are meant to be fully flat but the seat design that they had chosen is not completely flat. The footrest part droops down a few degrees and that kink is definitely noticeable. I recently experienced these seats between KUL and LHR. I still found the seats very comfortable. The only really annoying thing about the seat is that the seat position can't be adjusted once the tray table is out.

Thanks very much for this helpful info - very appreciated. The conflicting reviews out there were making it less than clear.

Maybe not perfect, but the seats sound fine and make MH a serious option for me. And I've always wanted to taste the satay ;)

My wife and I recently flew from Paris to Sydney on Malaysia airlines in business class. We both found the a380 seats very comfortable and good for sleeping. If they weren't flat I certainly couldn't tell. Very comfortable. The a330 seats were noticeable inferior (but still better than economy). The a330 section was a daytime flight so I was trying to not sleep. Given the a380 is the longer segment I think it is a good option and I would do it again.

How are you going to pay for the tickets? Points or cash?

If points first class from KUL to LHR or CDG is really worth it. My wife and I did it a couple of months ago and it was fantastic. Can give more details if you can consider it.

Dale.

Definitely agree with that. I've done F on the MH A380 too and it was fantastic.

The seats are fine. So, they're not the best out there but they're still pretty comfortable and, when you consider how much cheaper they are compared to SQ, QF and EK, it is totally worth it. The satay is wonderful, by the way. ;)

I have flown the MH A380 twice in business class.

It was only short haul and I did not use the "bed" feature but the seat was uncomfortable when I first sat in it and it takes a while to get used to it.

Good experience though and I would fly them again.

Did not realise MHs A380 was used short-haul. Which routes did you use them for ?

Thanks Dale. Would be lovely to travel in first, but this is a cash trip for two, which is why we are looking at the reasonable J fares with MH. However I have OWE status so we will get to enjoy the F lounges and some other perks along the way.

I've now seen a few pics of the J seat on the net and yes, I can see the dip at the end and yes, they really do look just fine. I guess the next big decision will be which meals to pick from the Chef-on-call :p The menu has lots of choices and looks good!

hi Dale
i am aware that the points fare from oz to Europe in J is very favourable. I believe about 51k one way. Can you enlighten me if the same can be said for the F points fares. I could not find a chart or calculator on the MH website anywhere. Can you also comment on availability when you booked

Cheers Danger UXB

I booked using purchased AA miles - 80K miles from Aus to Europe. The availability was very good when I went back in May this year.

Thanks for the reply Dale. Anyone out there point me in the right direction to an Enrich calculator or chart to work out how many Enrich points Aus to Europe is
Cheers Danger UXB

Enrich won't allow mixed class redemptions so can't price an F fare to Europe, but J is definitely 51k.

If we wanted a stopover in KUL what are the required miles? I guess it won't be 51000?
