Hi all

I'm flying SYD-SFO-ORD-MHT on New Year's Eve. I've only ever flown Qantas to the US so have a couple of questions.

1) is there a way I can use the points I get on UA? I have an account but would much rather they end up in my Qantas or Virgin account. Eg could I transfer them to Krismiles then to Velocity points?

2) Just confirming that it's totally worth it to pay the extra for 'economy plus'?

3) this is going to be a shock coming from Qantas, right?

I usually love flying, but everything I have heard about UA makes me dread the flight....

Thanks everyone :)

Not going to help you but I flew UA Syd-Sfo-Jfk rtn in Y in 1999, and have never flown them since!

1. What's your booking class? If it's on this chart, you can open a krisflyer account and transfer to VA later.

2. 34inch seat pitch is what you get.

3. Maybe it's because I get the culture, I usually get along with UA crew like a house on fire. They can be quite good, but probably a good idea to keep expectations low.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks :)

yes, it's on the chart (Q). That makes me feel a little better!

I calculate that at 10106 miles one way, which roughly transfers to VA as 7486 points.

Legend - thanks for your help. Doing the same the way back but continue on to Canberra with Qantas (thank god!). At least I will get some points.

Now to figure out if I can use my Virgin Velocity Amex lounge pass in the Centurion Lounge at SFO...

I think that's a no, but you will be able to pay $50 for the privilege.

While people bag them out I've never had an issue with UA. It's a plane ride with a few beverages and you'll be fine.

I've flown UA a lot and would suggest that you lower your already lowered expectations a little further.

3 extra inches made a huge difference for me in economy plus. UA was good to me and even gave me a free wine when I had no status (after buying 3-4 bottles).

Hope 5x beverage coupons make your trip a bit better. :)
