I'm on the significantly delayed QF12, which is meant to leave at 10:30pm on Apr 9, but has now been rescheduled for 8:45am the next day (a delay of about 10 hours). I've never been in this situation with QF, so I'm very interested to see the service recovery for this. Got notified via SMS (and tripit) of the flight delay and advised to call the US QF call centre, which I did. I'm connecting from a DL flight from SFO (different PNR obviously).
Called the GCC and the flight delay was confirmed with attached apologies about causing inconvenience. I informed them that I was flying in from SFO on a different airline (and not AA). Was asked what my arrival time was (7:15pm) and told to go to the QF service desk upon arrival at LAX and the staff there should have a hotel room booked for me including the transport to and from it. The guy I spoke to at the GCC said that they've booked out a bunch of hotel rooms in preparation for this since they had plenty of notice about this delay.
Let's see if things go according to plan. I'm flying in F and I'm also a WP. Will report back later...

QF93 didn't operate yesterday due to a lightning strike on the inbound QF94, hence the plenty of warning. They are an aircraft short at LAX due to that which means the following day's QF11 or QF93 will do an immediate turnaround and operate your delayed QF12.

Best of luck for a speedy, safe journey home! Hope QF looks after you (as they well should!)

I had a similar delay with QF a couple of years ago which was handled very well IMHO. I was on QF8 (DFW-SYD) which was delayed from 8pm until 9am the next morning due to the inbound QF7 being delayed. We were given about a days' notice of the delay. I had a place to stay in Dallas, but other passengers were put up in hotels and given meal vouchers in Dallas.

We arrived in Sydney around 8pm. Passengers going to BNE and MEL were re-booked onto the last flights for the day, but most other passengers missed onward connections to their final destinations. I was going to CBR, so I was put up in a hotel in Sydney and given a meal voucher. QF organised buses to/from the hotel.

On the plus side, the delayed QF8 was a very pleasant flight! Many passengers were re-booked via LAX, so the flight ended up leaving about 1/4 full. The morning departure also meant it was an entirely daylight flight.

Update:
Arrived into LAX and went straight to the QF check-in desks at TBIT. The staff were aware of the arrangements made for the delayed flight and I was told that Qantas had booked out a block of rooms at the Sheraton Gateway hotel. Transport was provided by the free shuttle from the hotel. No meal vouchers provided though. The staff at the hotel said that they were expecting vouchers issued by Qantas but all the passengers before me didn't have them either. I now need to work out how to claim the meal back (any suggestions would be greatly appreciated). Later that night, a further notification that QF12 has been delayed a further 2 hours, which didn't surprise me, as I thought a 2-hour turnaround for an A380 was rather ambitious!
Anyway, all checked in for the delayed flight now and enjoying some champagne in the F lounge.

Raise the meals issue with the lounge or gate staff, and the CSM on board if needed to get the wheels in motion

The delayed QF12 (from Apr 9) has just been pushed back another 40 minutes to 11:20am. Seriously, WTF??

So, I raised the issue of the meal vouchers in the lounge and their suggestion was that they could issue vouchers to be used at the airport. I mean, really...? I'm in the friggin' F lounge. What would be the point of meal vouchers for the airport??!

Could you probably follow up with customer service when you're back home and they ought to give you a few thousand points.

IIRC QF gives USD75 for meals? I'd be asking for that, or the value of your receipts if around or under the $75 mark.

They've misunderstood what you were asking. Take it up with Customer Care upon your return.
