First Class lounge [for new WP] query

I'll finally reach Qantas Platinum tomorrow once the points from last week's flights are processed, and was hoping to access the Cathay first class lounge on Tuesday.

Has anyone experienced difficulties accessing the lounge without a FF membership card that displays oneworld emerald status? I was hoping to just bring along a printout from the Qantas website confirming my new QFF status.

Are flying on CX? If son they will issue an invitation with the BPs so no problems. In fact your BP will have your status on regardless of who you're flying so that should suffice but having a print out won't hurt.

Your issue may be with the communication of status between QF and CX. It's not necessarily an instant update. If CX don't see you as a WP at check-in, you can try asking them to remove and re-add the FF#. That may pick up the new status.

CX now use Altea for checkin and their reservations system changed from CUTE to Amadeus also.

Your biggest problem could be that your status may not update quickly enough.

Other than that once updated it should be ok. There have been a few times in the past where CX lounge reception in HKG have called Qantas lounge reception to confirm status.

Thanks JohnK! My status was updated last night so hopefully it'll appear on the CX system when I visit the lounge tomorrow. It's the first time that I've reached QF WP so I'm very excited!!

Here's what I would do. Given your CX booking was made prior to you making WP there may be a lag (though if CX now checks in direct using Amadeus this may not be an issue as it should pick it up "live" from there) but I'd simply call CX and ask them what they show and if they maybe need to do anything to the booking to ensure it is OK. It probably is, but it can't hurt to just ask

My wife made qf platinum a year ago and we found the status was updated on a CX flight without issue. However her MH flights around the same time still showed sapphire though on the last flight of our trip (a week later) MH automatically picked up emerald without intervention. Good luck.

I just travelled through HKG with a friend who was in a similar situation. He was Sapphire but had just made Emerald the day before. The CX lounge agent at The Wing wouldn't accept a print out and called up "the Oneworld line to go through to the airline and get it confirmed". We went to the business side and had to come back to see her once she had confirmed it to go to F side.

Thanks all for your helpful comments! I had the status issue sorted at the Airport Express drop off (showed them the screenshot on my phone), so getting into the lounge at the airport was no issue. The Pier is out of this world!

Pier is awesome. The bar area has a weird 90s Miami vibe (too much velvet) but the restaurant was awesome.

The other thing you could do is go to the Qantas lounge and get them to write you a temporary pass with your status? I got the F lounge in MEL (flying F) to make me a temporary card with my number and status (at the time OW Sapphire) as I'd qualified only about 48hrs before.

While it didn't end up being needed (I was flying with AA in the states and their system pulled up Sapphire for me) I felt better to have something on me.

I ended up getting my Silver, Gold and Platinum welcome packs all within 3 weeks of each other when I returned from that trip

I've visited the Bridge before in HK, but not the Wing. I heard that the Pier first class lounge is newer and better? Do you think the Wing is worth visiting? I'm travelling from HK back to Sydney next month, so hope to drop by the lounge again then!

I would say the value of the Wing is now in the Cabanas - for a great bath/shower refresh experience, and possibly the Champagne bar, though I think the Pier (have not visited the new one yet I admit) wins on that level too. If you're starting in HK, then perhaps the Cabanas are not something that would interest as one should be relatively fresh ex-HK (as opposed to in transit off a long haul)

So based on need I would consider the Wing for Cabanas but have new Pier F as the best option to visit - specially if time is limited.
