Finnair had a business fare which allowed you fly through US or Asia. The fare allowed you to use QF/BA/Cathay from Australia to Asia or US and then FInnair to Europe. You could go through Asia both ways or US one way and return via Asia. If you paid a supplement, only one of the ASIA-Europe or USA-Europe sectors had to be on Finnair (ie you could fly to US on QF, then US to Europe FInnair, then Qantas the whole way from LONDON to Australia [this was called Routing B]).

Both fares [ie via Asia (fare 1) and via US one way (fare 2) were withdrawn from the market on March 16]. Does anyone know whether the fares have been/will be reintroduced and what pricing will be? There was a rumour that fare 2 would be withdrawn for good as Finnair was losing money - it had to pay QF to get you to US, then AA in 1st class to get you across the US so that Finnair could pick you up from east coast of USA.

I was able to purchase one of the RTW fares prior to 16 March. The Finnair staff stated that the fare was being withdrawn, and instead, Finnair was offering a J fare to Europe via Asia both ways, with the base price being less than $7000.

That is consistent with industry rumour that via US was being withdrawn forever.

tks

As far as im aware there are no plans to reintroduce the via US fare option, which isn't surprising.

Bestflights have the new deal on, via Asia only for $6669+++ which still isn't a bad deal...
