Trying to locate the cheapest SPG property in the world and I see one or two in Indonesia (Sheraton Lampung) that hover around the $40-$50 mark.

Just thinking whether I could rack up some decent nights by bookking four weeks at a time, check in for a few nights ---- depart for 3 weeks and come back at the end to check out. I will let the hotel know that I will be absent for a bit but will return. That's $1400 for gold status. I know that status is generally negligible but it's a the Lifetime Platinum status that I am interested in.

Anyone know if there are any other cheap properties out there, that are reasonably easy to get to?

Thanks for that list, very helpful. Looks like China, Indonesia and Malaysia are very do-able.

Shenzhen or Guangzhou/Guangdong may have some good options

But make sure you check maximum point/stay limits in Starwood T+Cs. Hilton won't give more than 100k base points on any stay. No idea if SPG has any limits.

Interesting concept.. If say you had SPG gold status could it be a worthwhile manufactured spending strategy to earn say AA miles?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Don't forget you can get credit for up to three rooms.

Yes indeed you could but booking 28 nights x 3 rooms, even at $50 per night per room, adds up to quite a bit of outlay HOWEVER as we are all savvy travellers and like the play the points game, I would have to see if having Platinum 75 or Platinum 100 would be worthwhile for those 28 x 3 = 84 nights outlay. Give me enough some suite upgrades beyond the regular upgrades and I might be tempted - having been a Platinum for 5 years previously I did receive some very nice upgrades so I know it is possible.

The Sheraton Lumpung in Bandar is the cheapest SPG hotel I've found, and not too far from Australia if you're looking to actually go there for check in. I'll be visiting later this year. ;)

Once I get an APEC Business Visa I might pop over the border and do this!

My favourite weekenders included

JW Marriott Futian
Langham Futian
Shangri La Guangzhou

Usually have some nice weekend offers with brekkie and lounge access for very reasonable prices...by HK standards anyway!

Shenzhen Port Visa is easy too at Lohu so no need to wait

No opusman. Had just wasted hours reading a bunch of similar threads.

And you're not here to plug that website or anything, of course.

Interesting bump though. I'd like to know Alanslegal whether you ended up going ahead with it or not? The value proposition is slightly different now given the impending closure of SPG!

Alan has left AFF....fyi

I find myself tonight in the Aloft Nanhai in Guangdong. Room rate is $50/night so I've grabbed two rooms. Doing spg challenge (here anyway) so will get gold and very close to platinum.
