FIFO Flights from Port Hedland to Eastern States in one day? Missing the Red eye...

I travel FIFO to Port Hedland every 2 weeks and then have 2 weeks off...But flights home on a Wednesday, the allocated day to Fly, are only available for half the year.

If anyone has found any flight links from Port Hedland to Wagga Wagga, missing the Red Eye flights, from October to March let me know???...Red Eye flights are the ones you catch at 11pm at night...Trying to avoid those...Cheers

Flights from Perth to Wagga Wagga...April to September only…FIFO to Eastern States

Qantas…QF1111… 09:05 Port Hedland…11:10 Perth
Qantas…QF802…11:55 Perth…17:20 Melbourne
REX Airlines…ZL3286…18:35 Melbourne…19:40 Wagga Wagga

These flight times are only available from April to September possibly due to daylight saving flight time changes.

Good luck, if you can't find in the timetables probably no other options!

Get to CBR and two hour drive at then end of it all?? Probably not a good idea after coming off shift.

Thanks...A couple of guys do that and it works for them...They keep a car at their mates house and drive it from CBR to Coota so it may work.

It took ages to find these three flights that connect via timetables, so thought it may be of use to other FIFO Eastern State Flyers, as 3 connecting flights are hard to find due to daylight saving flight changes etc...Cheers

Starting on QF1111 for PHE-PER-ADL-CBR this does seem to be the best option available and keeps the duration of the trip down to 8 hours.

10 hours of travel after finishing a heavy roster is pretty rough though...there's no chance of overnighting (syd or mel) and completing the journey on the thursday morning?

Otherwise another option might be sticking to the red eyes but upgrading to business make them more bearable (using some of those points you're hopefully racking up?) - this would be best on Qantas because you could take QF568 and get the newer A330 and hopefully plenty of sleep.

Airlines have yet to set their northern hemisphere winter timetable flights that would be our summer schedule, so things might look a bit clearer to the date, rather than 5 months away, just keep an eye on them.

Do QF and ZL interline the checked in luggage, or do you recheck at MEL, or do you travel with carryon only?

There is no interline agreement for baggage between QF & ZL so you would need to recheck which would be a PITA as by the time you get your bag off the QF flight you would be pretty close to baggage close off for ZL.

Most FIFO people I know manage will carry on only but it depends whether or not you have to lug your work gear home with you.

If you do OLCI and have carry on luggage only you can just arrive at the airport and go directly through security to the boarding gate which minimises any hassles particularly as you are doing it every 2 weeks.

Thanks for the replys... I take carry on luggage only as it's easier and I don't need to bring home much..Just a Computer and a change of clothes...

I will keep an eye out for the Summer timetable...Would like to know how to suggest an earlier flight out of Port Hedland to Perth at say 7am to Qantas???

Still after reading the 10 years ago Flight timetable Post, we have loads more options these days.

And the red eye is the 11pm Perth to Sydney flight arriving in Sydney around 6am and then catching a flight from Sydney to Wagga Wagga around 8.30am arriving at 9.45am into Wagga Wagga the following day,Thursday, so there is connecting flights just not on the Wednesday.

There is a Direct flight from Perth to Canberra..Arriving at CBR at 22.30 and some others that go via Sydney Adelaide or Melbourne that get in to CBR around 20.30 then a 3 hr drive home so the red eye is the better option for half the year at this stage unless the timetables change from last summer.

Karratha and Hedland are quite some distance between them. Even if one had a vehicle to leave at either airport, it's security during the 2 week layover would present some concerns.

Plus the Eastern State FF are responsible for flights out of Perth home, work only pays and organises flights From Port Hedland to Perth and visa versa, so not sure how direct flights to Sydney would work in that situation but they are doing it at Karratha so it can be done.

They are recruiting at Port Hedland and building accommodation so maybe in the near future more flights will accommodate the Eastern State flyers?

Whoops sorry, I always get confused between Karratha and Hedland. I should know better as well as I have family who've been up that way for 30 or 40 years.

They do the same sort of things at both places and so it's easy to confuse them. People FIFO from both places.

I think they dont see the traffic, Karratha is Tuesday for FIFO, if they were the same day then a connection with the direct flights would make business sense.

I agree.

Port Hedland is Fly in Tuesday and Fly out Wednesday so on Tuesdays FIFOs flys into Port Hedland and 2 weeks later on Wednesdays they Fly Out of Port Hedland...I think Karratha they do the same?

Port Hedland is Fly in Tuesday and Fly out Wednesday so on Tuesdays FIFOs flys into Port Hedland and 2 weeks later on Wednesdays they Fly Out of Port Hedland...I think Karratha they do the same?

Typical no news, late as usual given the news was out Friday , interesting timing for this thread to surface as well, coincidence, who knows?
