Hi Everyone,

I am flying EY486 AUH-PER which leaves tonight at 2225hrs tonight. I am in Abu Dhabi between patches of wifi and am not able to freely surf the web to find answers to a few questions. I have tried calling too but am getting a lot of ambiguous and misinformation so thought you might be able to help me out.

  1. What is the Baggage limitations for carry on and check in for Virgin Gold flying on Etihad.
  2. How long before the flight does check in open. I have a meeting nearby and would like to check my bags in before then just return later to cross customs and go to gate. I am hoping it opens at 1830.

Sorry for the simple questions which google could have solved but I am struggling with the internet here at the moment.

Thanks for your help

I'd call either airline re baggage - as far as I can tell there is no extra allowance unless it's a codeshare flight - I think AUH-PER is a codeshare but they might mean you have to be ticketed with a VA flight number.
If no benefit applies you're limited to 30 Kg, if the benefit applies, 45 Kg, no one piece exceeding 32 Kg. Assuming you're in Y.

Check-in opens 3 hours before the departure time.
But once again I would call them. Since you're flying from their hub they might be able to check you in earlier.

Sorry I didn't give definite answers I just thought in your circumstances a quick reply to confirm that what is available on the web is ambiguous could prompt you to call them before it's too late.
While I have flown this route a few times I was subject to different fare conditions.

So had a bit more of a look and it says on the velocity website that you get an extra 15kg if you are virgin gold. Does that mean you can check in two bags of 30kg and 15kg?

Thanks for the reply. I am ticketed under Etihad so now sure if the extra baggage is the case or not? I have tried calling twice and both times I spoke to someone who was completely and utterly confused as to what I was asking... Not very helpful at all

Okay I have now found a different page on the Velocity website and it confirms the extra 15Kg when flying with EY so you can take any combination of bags up to 45 Kg total weight provided no one piece exceeds 32 Kg.

Good luck with the checkin!

EY offers city checkin in AUH 24 hours before also at Abu Dhabi Mall and ADNEC

Thanks again!

yes I just managed to be connnected with someone from Etihad who understood what I was asking. They confirmed the extra 15Kg and told me that there is a City terminal where you can drop your bags off up to 24 hours in advance. I never knew about this so thought I would share it here. Makes life so much easier :)

Oh wow! I didn't know about this. I am at the Schlumberger base which is past the airport on the west side so I guess ADNEC would be closer. Thanks very much for this information, it helps a lot.
