Hi
My son (we'll call him son 1) pooled his SC and points via Family Pooling to my Velocity account for an international flight VA that he departed on last Saturday 3rd March. The SC & points from his flight are yet to pool into my account.

Son 2 is flying on an international flight on VA tomorrow with me and he is going to family pool his SC & points across to my account.

If son 1 cancels his family pooling to my account tonight so that son 2 can pool to me for his flight tomorrow (both sons are over 18 so both can't pool at same time) , will I still get the SC & points from son 1 for the flight he was pooled to me for even though I will have son 2 pooling to me as of tomorrow.

Eg: will Velocity family pooling remember the pooling from son 1 even though son 2 will be pooled to me when SC & points from son 1 finally come through.

Regards
kaz

Of course Sabre may have a completely different idea... so, as always, YMMV.

My understanding is that, irrespective of family pooling, crediting happens first to the individual accounts and then transfers are done automatically if family pooling is active. The answer to your question being that family pooling must be setup at the time the credit happens. It is not sufficient for it to be setup now when the credit has been applied for.

One work around I can suggest, however, is that you don't put down a Velocity FF number for #2 son on the tickets and then do a retro claim afterwards. You have up to 12 months to do a retro claim, which should be more than enough for the first lot of flights to flow through.

I've done thisbefore, pre-sabre.

I would leave Son1until his points credit. As soon as it credits, switch to son2. This worked inthe past with no issues. Not sure how itworks with Sabre.

It works on activity date , so if family pooling was “ active” on the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] with son1 , the points would pool to you , if you then changed on the 5[SUP]th[/SUP] to son no2 , all activity from this date he had would come to you.

If son no 1 travelled in FEB and was to do a retro claim today, those points would pool to you as well as at the time of the activity pooling was set up to you

Only 6 months for a retro claim

Looking over velocity T&C's it appears that pooling is to the person that was set up at time of the travel irrespective of other family pooling that maybe set up at a later date. (Thanks williamsf1 for the info as well)

Im feeling that I will get son 1 to cancel pooling to me tomorrow morning regardless of SC/points coming through or not by then, and have son 2 setup pooling to me immediately afterwards as son 2 travels in business class tomorrow and that's worth a lot more SC and points than economy if something does not go to plan.

As long as son 1 has completed his flight you can canel his pooling now and start pooling from son 2 immediately. I pool often to my kids and it has always been pretty straight forward I swap the pooling around mid holiday to keep their status up and have never had any issues.

Good to hear that news. Ill cancel his pooling now and set son 2 up immediately after.

Confirm that you should do it today, as it credits to the person who was recorded as "pooled to" at the time of activity. If son 2 goes tomorrow, set it up today.

I've had a few flights credit after chopping and changing pooling and it all works fine. A few of them credited weeks after and they went to the right person depsite pooling chaning since then. The only time I nearly got caught out was changing pooling in the US when it was -1 day from Australia. When I saw the pooling confirmation it recorded it as the date in AUstralia, rather than the time zone I was in.

I have a sort-of related question; sorry if it's thread-stealing!

MrsPooky set up family pooling, pooling her points/SCs to me, the night that she booked a BNE->ADL flight. She then took that flight two days later, on 20th Feb. She returned ADL -> BNE on 1st March.

I have received the points and SCs for the 1st March flight, but not for the 20th Feb flight.

Should I wait, contact Velocity regarding missing credits/points even though it was my SO that earned them, or ask her to contact Velocity?

Thanks!

I would ring Velocity ensuring your wife is close by in case they need to talk to her and explain the situation, if they cannot sort if over the phone they will let you know the best course of action. Since changeover I have had quite a few issues like above but all have been rectified (albiet have taken some time) and I was able to enquire on behalf of all Velocity members in the family.

That sounds like good advice. I will ask her to check her account, too, just in case it didn't 'pool' properly for some reason.

Thanks!

I had the exact same issue with sending my two little darling UNMRs down to SYD, the flight back pooled but no SC earn on the flight down. I called Velocity today and they simply asked for the PNR and all the member numbers. After couple of minutes hold they said for me to log into the site and check that the SC/Points had been credited. Shockingly they had, I was expecting the usual up to 10 day spiel.

I have to say that I am a little embarrassed on the way that I manage all the families SC's and points. I run a simple spreadsheet with some "if statements" and multiple worksheets. I also have dates as well a a separate worksheet that tells me when to change the family pooling and to whom.

We are coming up to a complicated period at the moment between end of March through to end of June where we have all family members flying around the world on different dates and flights. The whole aim to to ensure that the family members that have status (3 with Platinum and 1 with Silver) at the very least keep their status by their anniversary date. It also finds issues where we might be 10 or 20 points short in reaching status and this allows us to plan well ahead. (it also makes sure we don't waste status points) In fact we are now up to October and all family members will reach their goal. It's not perfect because at the end of the day you still have to fly to get the status. To date we have not had to do a status run deliberately to maintain status. (although one trip in June boarders on this)

I wouldn't be embarrassed, you have managed to maintain status without having to do status runs by automating your forward planning of SC movements.

I'm unsure whether you have too much time on your hands, or whether you should apply to VA to be their IT guru or whether I should plead with you to put that up for download in the "spreadsheet".

What a great tool. Well done.

I think maybe you were lucky.

We called with all of the information, but the (very nice, polite, and friendly-sounding) Velocity Gold support person said that she was unable to do anything about it, and MrsPooky would need to send a copy of the boarding pass or Virgin-sent itinerary email for the flight to the retro@... address, which could take up to 14 days to process, etc.

I assume the points and SCs will come through eventually once we've done that, but still I was a little disappointed that she couldn't help out on the phone, since we had all of the information they'll get from the itinerary email.

Confirm that you should do it today, as it credits to the person who was recorded as "pooled to" at the time of activity. If son 2 goes tomorrow, set it up today.
As a data point, I have setup family pooling at the Optus internet booths at the aiport, after already checking in, worked fine. I think the actual sweep to credit points (and move to family if appropriate) happens in arrears so you may even have a small window of time to update even post flight.
