EY LHR-PER feb 2016 - help maximising upgrade eligibility

Dear AFF Geniuses,

EDIT: After further research it occurs to me that purchasing AAdvantage miles and booking an award ticket might be my best chance of flying business class despite current Etihad miles. If that's the case would love to receive assistance finding the best VALUE return award flight for LHR - PER travelling 04/02/2016 - 4/03/2016. DATES ARE NEGOTIABLE. I know there is a lot of availability with Etihad, but the longest leg of the journey (AUH - PER) has an inferior business class product so would like to try get the best value, and best business class seat/product for the whole journey if possible. Perhaps Cathay Pacific? Look forward to your expert advice!! Thanks again in advance!

I am a Perth girl currently living and working in London looking to book a flight home for the old VISA changeover leaving LHR sometime between 31/01/2016 - 9/02/2016 and staying in Perth for approximately 4 weeks. ( exact dates on both ends are negotiable)

I currently have 10, 034 Etihad Guest Miles and 18,064 Etihad TIER miles from my last trip home (which was 11/02/2015). If I purchase and economy return ticket in Economy Saver fare class provided the LHR-PER journey takes place BEFORE 11/02 am I correct in saying I will achieve Silver Tier status on my arrival to Perth?

Can you experts please assist me in figuring out a way I might be able to Upgrade with points and/or cash to business for one or both legs of my journey home? Will I be able to earn enough points on the way there to upgrade on the way home? If not is there a way I can earn points missing using some offers I may not know of?

If points won't be possible what's the best way to maximise chances of a paid upgrade/cheapest way to obtain an upgrade? (at gate vs bidding?) Can you assist me in obtaining good estimates of the costs? Is my current Etihad miles/status worth making sure I fly Etihad this trip at all, or am I over valuing the silver status altogether and should just fly whatever economy fare is cheapest?

Dee - with regards to AA flights, for 60,000 points (total cost of $1,298.50 USD for the points if you are a curent AA member and purchase during the current promotion which includes federal taxes and processing fees, working out to be around $1,784 AUD)

QF2 is the A380 so a lie flat bed. QF575 is an A330, so possibly the same. Taxes and booking fee for this would be around $305.80 USD.

Hi,

I understand, but that's just one way. Once you double it and factor in the nearly 10 hours flying time extra its just not worth it.

I understand it's worth it compared to the cost of a business class flight outright departing Australia, but the added flight time is really huge and it's about the same as LHR-PER business class flight outright (if purchasing departing Europe)
