Hello all. This is my first post of AFF so go easy on me. I am about to embark on my first OS travel with my wife since the birth of our first son who will be 9 months when we travel next year. We are going to Singapore but contemplating breaking the journey in Darwin into two approximately 4 hour flights starting from Brisbane.

We will be looking at a JASA to DRW from Brisbane. I am just wondering what thoughts were on the Darwin to Singapore JQ 57 product and what are good seat choices for the operating aircraft type? Flightstats seems to indicate reasonable on time performance with minimal cancellations.

Here are some examples of Jetstar's pre-paid hot meals on Asia/Australia via DRW services.

The view from Seat 1A (above on the right), shows both the misalignment of the starboard and port seat rows (on JQ Australian A320s, different layout on their A321s, so that the port side seats have slightly more leg room in the front half of the cabin, until the rows align before the emergency exits), and the bulkhead leg-room (not) available at 1DEF.

If you can stand it, do the JASA starting from TSV, it will save you points and earn more SCs/Points in return, although it might be hard convincing mum and child to go to TSV :D. Thursday/Sunday you will have Skybeds until March when the A333 gets pulled.

Hey mate

I fly JQi from Darwin quite often, and whilst I haven't been to SIN on JQ, its the same planes that go leave from DRW - either an A320 or an A321 - the A321 is much better for seat selection - you can get good exit row seats with heaps of room.

Other than that, well its Jetstar.

If you are having a break in DRW, can I suggest maybe doing an overnighter and enjoying the sights - its really a beautiful town

Remember though, if travelling with the infant, exit rows are not available.

Ahhh this is true...

We made that mistake - paid for an exit row for me, when I had to make an emergency trip to BNE (my father was on life support) and added my partner at the last minute at the airport with our 14mth old daughter...

Waste of money!

Thanks for all the great info and photos. Yes I had remembered the whole exit row dilemma when traveling with an infant.

When clicking around in the Jetstar booking engine I had noticed that on this flight that the row in front of the exit row had only 2 seats. What is the go with this? I have not come across it before.

I am interested in the mention of the JASA route via TSV and the sky beds. I must have missed something here at what Markis10 is referring to. What routing do you have in mind with the TSV option you mentioned

Thursday and Sunday QF824 is operated by the A333 that has come in from HKG, so its Skybeds, ex TSV to DRW via BNE is 24000 points + $100 or so, the below is an example of the round trip so half the costs and the earn!

Thanks for the clarification Markis10. I checked the aircraft for Thursdays in Feb 2012 and it seems to show 767 as the operating aircraft. Could I expect this to be updated to the 333 at some stage?

Interesting, with the HKG schedule changes in MAR I thought they would keep the A333 until then, maybe its going early, its always running late for some reason. Most of the summer changes are still being loaded and will be done in the next two weeks or so.

This means that the flight is operated by an A321.

I have sat in these seats before (as the idea of two people sitting together without sharing the row with another passenger is tempting) and will not do it again, as the leg room (we sat on the rear starboard side pair) seemed the worst on the aircraft.

This sounds quite familiar. With an 18 month old I wouldn't break up the trip unless I had to. Especially on the way back, don't you get to darwin in the middle of the night? I remember eating lots of crackers. The fellow behind had pre-ordered a meal which wasn't loaded. But the seating etc wasn't much worse than Emirates economy which I have also taken back on that route, which has the - was it five seats wide? - big centre sections and no leg room.
