Even though it's much more difficult to ticket round the world flights on American Airlines out of Johannesburg, Johannesburg still remains one of the cheapest points to start an XONE fare.

I wonder if anyone has experience with BA. Will they do change of dates at no cost? It's been a luxury to use the AA RTW desk, but sadly no more.

Thanks for any input.

Once a ticket has started being used, any oneworld member can make changes. You wouldn't have to keep going back to the airline that issued the ticket after departure.
I've had tickets issued by AA, QF and CX. I've had changes made by QF, AA, CX, JL, MH, BA, AY and IB.

Changes to date, time, carrier and flight are all free, provided ticketed points remain the same (note: changing flights/dates that change a connection to a stop over are changes to ticketed points) as per the fare rules. Airlines are however allowed to charge a service fee to make the change.
BA has never done so the times I have made changes with their agents.

again, even if a ticket is issued by BA, there is nothing preventing the AA RTW desk making changes to it, provided the first flight has been used.

If at all possible it's well worth avoiding ticketing with BA due to their outrageous fuel fines.
and if trying to issue with BA via the online tool, it puts the booking on hold, gives you the PNR and tells you to call the local BA office to work out payment over the phone.

The currently reported issues of AA refusing to price xONEx fares correctly and instead insisting on price of credit card billing address country is not a rule and is something AA has randomly decided to do themselves. The rules state that a xONEx sold by an agent in JNB be charged at the South Africa rate, AA has reportedly been charging, for example, the Australian rate based on an Australian card billing address. This is wrong.
There is no word yet on if AA is insisting on the same incorrect charges if the pax is physically at the ticketing office/desk using a card issued overseas (if I am physically at the AA ticket desk at NRT paying for an xONEx with my AU card, will they attempt to charge an AU price or the correct JP price?)

Okay so when you contact the local BA office (in Sydney for me), Do they charge you the price quoted by the online tool?

Apparently in South Africa the AA ticketing agency has no office open to the public, so that alternative hasn't been attempted.

Remember that a different airline can "take over" an xONEx ticket after the first flight. AA "might" do so if they have the next over ocean flight and it is the one to be changed (and they can "see" the remainder of the itinerary)

Happy wandering
