Hi Everyone,
I have been trying to book a trip to Europe today to take advantage of the Qantas double status credits.
Ideally we want to fly
MEL -> AMS -- departing around 21-Jul
FCO -> MEL -- departing around 1st-Sep
I am a Gold QFF (will be Platinum in Jun) with 430,000 points currently and am looking for Premium Economy as I plan to upgrade to business using my points.
From the research I have done it looks like Qantas only operate flights in/out of London? Hence if I want my upgrade to be all the way I need to travel via London which is annoying as it adds around 8hrs each way which will be painful if we don't get the business upgrade. Too complicate matters I have a ~$2000 credit with Qantas from a trip I cancelled last year so ideally flights with Qantas would be preferred.
Are their any alternative paths that Qantas operate in/out of Europe? I also looked at classic flight rewards using the paths above but it will cost 503,000 points which leaves me short and even then its only business MEL -> AMS and then Premium Economy FCO -> MEL all via Cathay Pacific.
Its looking like I have left this too late and will probably just book Premium Economy via London and attempt the upgrade on the Qantas operated part from DXB to MEL but thought I would reach out to the experts to see if I have got this right?
I even checked out the direct route Premium Economy and MEL -> DXB -> AMS is over $1000 more expensive then MEL -> DXB -> LHR -> AMS! It's shorter distance so I am guessing your paying for the convenience of the more direct route???
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards,
Don
