Hi Everyone,
I have been trying to book a trip to Europe today to take advantage of the Qantas double status credits.

Ideally we want to fly
MEL -> AMS -- departing around 21-Jul
FCO -> MEL -- departing around 1st-Sep

I am a Gold QFF (will be Platinum in Jun) with 430,000 points currently and am looking for Premium Economy as I plan to upgrade to business using my points.

From the research I have done it looks like Qantas only operate flights in/out of London? Hence if I want my upgrade to be all the way I need to travel via London which is annoying as it adds around 8hrs each way which will be painful if we don't get the business upgrade. Too complicate matters I have a ~$2000 credit with Qantas from a trip I cancelled last year so ideally flights with Qantas would be preferred.

Are their any alternative paths that Qantas operate in/out of Europe? I also looked at classic flight rewards using the paths above but it will cost 503,000 points which leaves me short and even then its only business MEL -> AMS and then Premium Economy FCO -> MEL all via Cathay Pacific.

Its looking like I have left this too late and will probably just book Premium Economy via London and attempt the upgrade on the Qantas operated part from DXB to MEL but thought I would reach out to the experts to see if I have got this right?

I even checked out the direct route Premium Economy and MEL -> DXB -> AMS is over $1000 more expensive then MEL -> DXB -> LHR -> AMS! It's shorter distance so I am guessing your paying for the convenience of the more direct route???

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,
Don

You won't be able to do it since you can only upgrade flights operated by Qantas and they don't fly to many places anymore, only LHR. Perhaps do a return to LHR then use points to fly to/from AMS and FCO on BA.

With previous SC offers it was and QF ticketed flight so you could fly EK for example (direct to AMS and FCO) but this year's 2XSC offer is QF operated flights only (save for NZ on EK).

I would book QF to LHR and then just get seperate tickets in Europe. LHR-AMS with BA, EZY or KL... then AMS-FCO you could do with Vueling or ezy, and then rome back to London with ezy, BA or Alitalia.
