EU clears British Airways, Iberia merger

Europe's competition watchdog cleared the way on Wednesday for a merger between British Airways and Spanish rival Iberia which would create one of the world's biggest airlines.

"The Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it," the European Commission said in a statement

I wonder if as a result QP members will now get access to IB lounges too (through means of their "BA" lounge access).

If I recall correctly, they’re remaining two separate brands, so unless QF held talks with IB, or rather, renegotiated with the new parent company, then it’d be a no.

That was my thoughts, too. Have to be optimistic, right?

When I was in Europe last year, the only IB flights we looked at taking were codeshares of Vueling so didn't earn any SC/FF anyway, so ended up booking direct with Vueling for a cheaper amount.

As it turns out with the money saved, we spent it on a nice meal before the flight so I think we won overall anyway
