Sad news for Perth today, Etihad has announced the removal of the Perth route from 01 October 2018.

As a Virgin Frequent Flyer really sad to see us lose another option out of Perth after losing the NZ partnership too.

Cost cutting as a result of the poor financial situation they find themselves in no doubt.

They will likely cut more routes but will need to take care as to what loss making routes feed into other profitable services.

I would have thought to early for that to have any effect, unless it was already in trouble and they can see the writing on the wall
Qantas has been selling Perth London for some time now. They may have been noticing a trend in declining sales since that time.it would have been a contributing factor, but general competition and their own financial position more likely.QF were probably just the final straw. 2 of VAs cornerstone backers in EY& HNA are in a nasty pickle at the moment

The QF flights haven't been selling as well as QF hoped, but they have picked up slightly.

So the WA Government spent an absolute minimum of $14M in corporate welfare to gain 236 pax a day (QF789) and ended up losing 299 pax a day (EY789). Well done Colin. EY may have stayed for half of the Government handout.

Alot of the 'new' QF pax do not spend a cent here either...

Stats such as these ignore capacity increases with other airlines (i.e QR up gauging to 388 etc).

The WA Government does not appear to have paid a cent to QR for their capacity increase.

QF were clear, no corporate welfare, no service...

Considering most of the PER-LHRvv passengers are joiners in PER, that statement is completely false.

If anything MEL has lost out as they are no longer getting the European passengers from Qantas.

We are just more through code share on Emirates metal, and others, Rather than QF, in addition we have 2 flights a day from Singapore and Emirates have upgauged a 777 to an A380 :):):)

But MEL now have two one-stop services to LHR on Qantas, instead of just QF9 via DXB before. MEL-PER-LHR on QF9 and MEL-SIN-LHR on QF37/1, it's sort of irrelevant that it's a connecting flight at SIN, it's still just one stop.

Considering most of the PER-LHRvv passengers are joiners in PER, that statement is completely false.

Most of those are likely to be WA residents and therefore do not contribute an additional cent (over what they contribute anyway) to the WA economy to offset the $14M+ in corporate welfare...

There was absolutely no justification to give QF any money for their private venture and EY pulling out just shows how foolish it was.

I had an award booking through Velocity for Etihad J DUB- AUH, AUH-PER for October 9th.

I wouldn’t have known anything only for the forums.

This will be interesting..... :(
