I am flying to Perth on Easter Friday and noticed they moved my flight by half an hour and changed it from A330 to B737 :(

What are my chances of moving to the earlier 2 flights that uses A330? I am flying on getaway fare so I can't even use fly ahead, I am VA Gold if it helps.

I would expect little chance of moving for free since you are travelling in Y.

VA are pretty good about letting you move after an equipment change if you are travelling in J however (including on confirmed J upgrades).

I find the economy seats on the a330 narrower than the b737.

The main benefit of the a330 in economy (in my opinion) is that the window sides are in a pair of 2 seats.

Though if the flight isn't full you can score spare seats next to you on the b737, again which out weighs the a330.

Access to the toilets is far better on the A330 when you have to slum it in Y.

This is more of an issue on transcon sectors however...

Isn't your last benefit Moot? What stops you from scoring spare seats on the A330 any differently from the 737?

If you are on the window side on an a330 you can only really have one spare seat next to you. On a B737 you can have two.

If you are a group of two travelers on a b737, you and leave the middle seat between you both and hope it stays free.

If you think you may upgrade to business then always try for a330.

Sorry about the delay with an update, I am still trying to track down my travel agent as it is not booked directly on the VA website, as others said I am not having much hope, just giving a try anyway.

I've grown less and less fussed about this as time has gone on. Generally I find the 737s fine now, in economy. - as gold, I get lounge access anyway and that's far more valuable to me as I can eat properly and avoid the meal onboard. As long as the fares are cheap! In Business it's a different story, of course. The fact you are booked through a TA might help, as they could perhaps negotiate with VA themselves/maybe they have some pull. But I wouldn't let it ruin your trip or anything...

Finally got hold of the agent and they managed to get VA to agree to swap me to an earlier flight, so I got myself back onto the A330 plus the timing is a lot better, great outcome at the end.

MustFly: I agree, in the grand scheme of things it's a minor thing, but I am impressed on how flexible VA is regarding the flight change, given the flight is only moved by 30 minutes there's certainly no obligation for them to move me to an earlier flight.

mel to per story this week

flight was to be on a a330 so i wait listed an upgrade with points to Y. couple days before the flight i noticed points had been taken out, upgrade had been successful so i went in to select my seat. at this point i realised that an equipment change had happened and was now flying on a 737.

long story short rang velocity, explained i didn't want to use the points for an upgrade on the 737. no issue from the staff, points refunded in 24 hours and even confirmed a seat in row 6 on the spot.

disappointed but happy, if thats a thing...
