INDUSTRIAL action planned by Qantas engineers for tomorrow has been postponed.

The Australian Licensed Aircraft Association (ALAEA) has put off a plan to refuse to work overtime following failed negotiations with management over pay rises.

"The bottom line is, we met today, we had a productive meeting and we're going to meet again tomorrow,'' head of Qantas Engineering David Cox said.

The industrial action planned for Wednesday is now scheduled for Friday, but it would not disrupt flight schedules, Mr Cox said.

"This sort of action we could manage - it's low level,'' he said.

Any further news on the postponement? Does industrial action still look likely to happen now?

I am not being selfish, as I sympathise with the engineers and their cause, but I do have the all important Queensland Mining Towns Tour happening end of this month....

28 is a public holiday? Wouldn't be a lot gained going on strike that day!

Hell yea, Australia day long weekend.

Engineers can certainly read calenders it seems ;)

Fun times, our whole dept is heading down to Melb on the Tuesday for a big board meeting - hopefully we get to the airport and the flights are so delayed it gets canceled! (very very selfish I know!)

Um, Pauly7, I don't think you have anything to worry about, I was pulling JohnK's leg, as those are the dates of his big mining town trip, hence the ":p "

Looks like the strike has been postponed again until February 1 which is the day I am due to return from the Queensland Mining Towns tour.

INDUSTRIAL action planned by Qantas engineers for today has been postponed. Originally planned for Wednesday, it was rescheduled for today before being delayed.
It's the second time this week the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association has delayed its plans to resist working overtime following failed pay talks.

"(ALAEA) has deferred its proposed action until February 1," a spokesman for the association said yesterday.

You should be ok then, you wouldn't think the planes are going to go out of service at 0600 hours, it will take time for things to go wrong and break, so you should be home and tucked up in bed by then.

Talking of which, what the hell are you doing up at this time?

Whats happening in Parsi Reggie ? I would have thought not so much call for you line of work there ? conference maybe ? Have fun !

JohnK, As i understand it they will only ban over time, which makes sense and actually atleast makes part of there point about being under staffed. Pesonally i think its a bit lame but i think people know my opinions on strikes.
Can't wait for your trip reports. I think its sounds an interesting trip.

You would be surprised where my colleagues and I have work. There are lots of places in and around Paris, France and all of Europe for that matter.

I am on my way to a conference in New Orleans, and on my *ONE4, I stopped in Paris for some meetings, one of which is at Le Moulin Rouge :) . I just have to remember not to do a Kevin07:cool:.
