Emirates are to downgrade EK425 (PER-DXB) and EK424 (DXB-PER) from a A380 to a B777, effective 27th March.

Gaaahhhh!, just when I've booked an F return on those later in the year . I chose that pair to get as much daylight flying as possible.

Do you have any further information as to which B777 version is likely to fly the route?

You poor bugger.

No I have no further information - sorry!

Presume it will be the same version used on flights to other cities in Australia.

EF is showing it as a 77W (B777ER). And showing suites with 1A taken - better still be me ;).

Interesting that it's happening a mere few months after they changed to all A380 service PER-DXB.

That is annoying :(

Looks like the 1AM arrival and 6AM departure flights are 77W now.

From memory, previously it was actually the evening flight that was 77W before it changes last year. Anyone remember?

Evening flight was the first A380.

6am departure was the 777 which changed to the 380 in Aug 16 and now in Mar 17 will go back to the 777

So annoyed! I booked the 6am flight on the basis it was the A380. The 777 is such a tired uncomfortable plane. Not happy!

So EK (and QF) will 'effectively' drop to one flight a day PER-DXB v.v, as the 77W is a no go zone in anything but F.

Maybe the change is to make the new QF 789 service look more attractive.

My flight DXB-PER on 9 February is now showing as a 777.

At least my outbound ex SYD is an A380. I'd be upset if that got switched.

Oh this is infuriating! I just checked my booking and saw the B777 change, I tried finding an article about it but this is the only thread i've found. I have booked J flights to/from Europe in June/July for my honeymoon and specifically chose flights so that they would all be A380, now 3/4 are B777 (one dubai-rome). I am really really annoyed about this. Do you think I'd have any chance of getting Emirates to change the flights to the A380 flight on a similar day at no charge or is that optimistic?

General consensus is don't book for aircraft, as aircraft changes happen all the time. Some of the comments here reminds me of Pacman3 :-|

I think the  is due to:

  • the fact that EK really push the a380 in all the product ads, and its website
  • there's a world of difference between the a380 and the EK b777
  • in Perth the difference between EK and everyone else is ... the a380

So ... its classic bait & switch : many people take the bait and book on the basis of EK offering the flight on an a380 ... then cop the switch ... otherwise they would have certainly gone with a cheaper & more comfortable competitor.

(And to anyone who argues the point about aircraft changes ... that's right - a chauffeur company can advertise it has 100 Bentleys, and then put you in a Nissan Micra that is hidden in the fine print under "4.2.3 Substitution. The provider has the sole discretion to supply from a variety of vehicles including Bentleys, Mercedes Benz, BMWs, a Nissan Micra, Aston Martins and Rolls Royce...)

Yeah that's pretty much it. In the end we will no doubt cop it and be sad. In our case these is an additional layer of frustration because the flights were booked about 2 weeks after Emirates made a big song and dance about how ALL of their flights out of/to Perth were now A380, and then only a few months later it's back to the 777 half the time.
I know that Emirates is a business, and they are contractually entitled to do what they've done, but that doesn't stop me from being disappointed.

Will Emirates consider switching (foc) pax who booked in advance to EK421 (and adjusting onward travel)?

Costs a phone call to ask I suppose?

Booked Business PER-DXB-GLASGOW and Business LHR-DXB-PER a few month ago for July/Aug travel.. All flights A380 which was great. Now I find out that 2 of the 4 flights are changed to 777, that is DXB-GLASGOW and DXB-PER. No notification to advise me, I didnt find out until I went to check seat selection. Cannot change flights as there is no availability now.

BTW, does anyone know opening hours for Emirates lounge in Perth, I can book the complimentary pickup for 5 hours prior to the flight, but no point if lounge isn;t open that early.

Reviving an old thread after seeing this: Emirates ditches middle seat with new wider Boeing 777 business class

And the vested interest being my attempt at booking at the end of May in business.

How does the business class in the current plane rate? What are the chances I end up on one of the upgraded 777-200LRs by end of May!?
I may well be mistaken, but I think PER does not get the new 2x2x2 J config on the 200 but might have been promised the new config F on the 300.
If that is the case, then at some times of the year its a lottery which you'll get. (I should say more of a lottery - it depends on load and EK voodoo).

I've done the -200 2x3x2 and -300 2x3x2. Certainly not the same as the a380, but the timing suits me better. (Day flights ... don't like trying to sleep ... that's another lottery!)

davidj thanks for posting that link (old post I realise but just saw it after the topic was revived
That FT thread started by Pacman3 is hilarious and a reminder that we are not always the "entitled" bunch that some other flyers deem themselves to be :D
