11-abreast scares me, but I'm open to seeing what the cabin would look like. Not that I'd be caught dead in the middle of the plane, but being in the middle of that would be no worse than an A seat currently, at least in theory.

Despite all the Airbus media chest beating no one has actually installed it as of yet though, have they?

Oh my! That 'A' seat looks terrible. Everyone is going to have to be very friendly with their neighbour.

As a 6'5" individual with very long legs who almost always is in Y....I say no to that!

The first thing I think of is DVT actually...looks very uncomfortable.

I love the 787 - I am not talking the layouts the airlines put in - I am talking the plane itself. I have little doubt that in time it will be one of the most succesful designs in aviation history. It will reach 10,000 airframes.

Even with all the delays and problems, they did have a lot of them delivered very quickly.
A little over 6 years in service now, and just over 600 delivered.

Likewise, all we can do is vote with our wallets and avoid airlines who think this is a good choice...

No. Emirates was initially behind the idea of an 11-abreast economy section as part of its drive to make the existing A380 fleet more efficient, but then ruled out 11 abreast seating.

It is inaccurate to say Airbus engaged in media chest beating. In fact, it came uncomfortably soon after Airbus revealed new research into the impact seat width makes to levels of passenger comfort on board long haul economy flights and called on the aviation industry to set a minimum standard of 18 inches (45.72cm).

They were simply responding to the request of their largest and most important A380 customer.

I think EK has been flip-flopping.
They want improvements and they want the line to stay open, but don't want to pay.

Reality is Airbus won't spend big money (if the line stays open) until their is a new engine available (likely an improvement on the Trent 1000/XWB used on 787/350) due to the interaction of the wing/engine for efficiencies.

Given the over-engineering of the wing, the lack of weight savings materials in the 787/350, and the older engine (Trent 900/EA product) there are likely plenty of efficiency gains, but it's a big and expensive job.
