Hi all. Apologies in advance if this topic has already been covered however a search for more than 20 mins failed to locate anything.

As a WP QF, and due to fly BNE-HKG on QF flight with QF metal from BNE, can I use the Emirates Lounge rather than the QF Lounge?

Thanks

Short answer, and as far as I know - yes.

Long answer, QF97 departs at 10:25am from Brisbane, with the EK Lounge closing around 8:00am, with the 8:25am departure of EK434 to Auckland, and the EK lounge remaining closed until the A380 returns at 17:00 from AKL as EK435. So unless you get there really early, to have a few minutes usage of the EK lounge, before being kicked out to go back to the QF lounge, the attempt to use it would be pointless.

While the EK lounge in BNE is in my opinion better than the QF lounge, it is above gate 75 and is a good 5-10 minutes walk from the QF lounge and where any gates QF use to board flights and all things weighed up, if you are flying with QF, you are best to stick with the QF lounge unless you love to walk a lot and want the hike down to gate 75.

Agree, it's a waste of time and a long walk, with the QF flights usually at the opposite end of the terminal.

Ot would want to be significantly better to warrant changing lounges and the long walk each way

Sorry for replying so late:

Being EK Gold, I have been to EK Lounges in SIN, BNE, & AKL and find them to be overall, very identical - which I quite like.

EK in the lounges I have been to, have a knack for the smaller things. The colour and style of tiles, chairs etc, it just works and is comfortable.

What is worth the walk in BNE? - well first up the range of food on offer. It simply is 500% more and of a better quality. I look forward to the offerings in the EK lounge, and often am not disappointed. Also the offerings are replenished very quickly and if something was missing - it will be replaced seconds later. The only thing QF do do better, is in the Coffee department at BNE.

The second thing is the bathroom and showers. In the EK lounge everything, excluding toilet paper, is a real towel, from hand towels to dry your hands, to the towels to have showers. They are also bigger and snugglier. The bathrooms have hordes of amenity kit items ready to use - and full range of perfumes if you wish to choose. The showers are also 3 times larger per cubical, the same with toilets. I found the QF lounge in BNE, the bathrooms would be what I would expect from a well kept McDonalds restroom, as the EK lounge is what you would expect, plus more from a penthouse suite in a 5 star hotel.

The direct boarding from the lounge is great. They tend to only call the flight, when you can walk straight onto the flight from the lounge. You are not privy to any of the streams of calls made downstairs, you get a 5 minutes heads up call, then 5 minutes later you are walking directly onto the flight from the lounge - it makes the time from leaving the lounge till the time you are air-bound very short. But yes, you need to be flying an EK flight to do so.

Interesting thread, I had an issue using the lounge on QF8 late last year.

The QF staff when I got back suggested the EK staff were giving me the run around, but I didn't want to cause a fuss.

Last night it was the QF staff who gave me the run around. I arrived early for my EK flight (booked on QF codeshare) so I thought I'd drop in at the QF lounge first. I was told that I could only go to one and that the EK lounge was much better anyway (yes, this was from a QF staff - is it another cost saving measure?). Anyway I hadn't been to the EK lounge in BNE before and didn't want to argue so I left thinking I may come back later before the QF lounge closed. In the end I didn't look back...
