Hi all - long time lurker, first time poster :)

My husband and I are very close to booking our QF Classic Rewards seats to Europe for 2018 and I'm undecided on which flights to choose. We'll be flying First Class on Emirates into Amsterdam - for both of us it will be our first trip flying F so we are very excited and want to make sure we maximise the experience.

The dilemna is whether we should go direct from MEL to DXB on EK409 or choose to go MEL>SIN>DXB on EK405. Normally I would prefer to take the more direct route but the 5am departure time is a real put off for EK409. As committed as I am to champagne, I can't imagine we'll be in any mood to be having pre-departure beverages at that time of day

EK409 has a much more better departure time but it means we'll have to break up the flight into 2 x 7 hour legs, which means less time for a quality sleep.

Does anyone have a view on which route would be better? Thanks in advance!

EK409 is operated by a B777 whereas EK405 via SIN is operated by an A380 so you'll have a chance for 2 showers as well as double the lounge time in DXB...

I was basically in the same situation in the end I wanted the EK A380 F experience so booked EK405 which I’ll be taking next month.

Would have loved a direct A380 experience but double shower access and more reasonable time for the flights so probably all good.

Easy - EK405 - better departure time, much better for the QF First lounge in MEL, ability to have a shower on the A380.

Departure times and so forth are meaningless to me - champagne can be enjoyable at any hour, especially with the chance to sleep it off wonderfully afterwards :)

But for the full F experience with Emirates, you have to do it in the A380. To me that is indisputable ......

First F experience, then it is a no-brainer. Via Singapore. Two flights on the A380. Better departure time, and chance to stretch legs in Singapore.

The Qantas F lounge in MEL will be better in the afternoon (although no chance of a spa treatment either time). You will at least have some time in the Dubai F lounge.

Enjoy!

Agree, no-brainer. You'll want to indulge in those showers for sure!

Plus- there's no bad time for good champagne. Ever. ;)
