Hi guys,

I've been trying to select the elusive 59F on my flight QF568 tomorrow (15/5) and it seems that never sticks.

1. When I tried doing it online, it came back with a Generic Error message and basically just caused my seating allocation to disappear.
2. When I rang them at 131 313, the agent tried and apparently did manage to confirm 59F, but when I went back in to my booking to check it was 55J instead.
3. I then tried at the Qantas Club MEL yesterday evening on my way to Perth, and apparently after a couple of complicated keystrokes, 59F was selected and confirmed (and I saw it on EF as being occupied, with 55J empty although strangely enough in my booking, it still shows as 55J).

This morning, however, I see that rows 58 and 59 have been X'ed off, and a quick ring to 131 313 indicates that I've apparently been shifted to 57F although my booking still shows 55J. I asked about 59F again, and he simply said it was occupied. When I clicked on Select Seats in my booking, 57F is shown as occupied and I'm still in 55J. It's been a fairly annoying exercise just to get a seemingly simple seat allocation one (although of course, I must qualify that I understand these are only requests).

Does anyone know what is going on here and how is it possible that I could be occupying two seats?

Thanks guys for all your help in advance!

E/F is showing the three row 58 and the two row 59 seats as blocked, but unallocated.

Thanks serfty for your prompt response!

Do you know how I could have had one seat allocation in my booking, and another apparently allocate at the back-end though? The QF agent I spoke to insisted that I had 57F, but my booking still shows 55J (and like I mentioned above, 57F appears in my Select Seats page as being occupied). E/F shows 55J as unoccupied.

They may be separate systems, I am not sure of the technical side of it. But I have certainly recreated such a situation once OLCI opens. The pre-selected seating tool is separate to check-in. You could say the former is merely a seat request on the itinerary, the latter actual seat allocation for the flight. The web site shows the request not allocation in my bookings IME.

I am not sure about your situation but I know once I have started OLCI the seat on 'Your bookings' does not correspond to the seat I have selected during OLCI.

Thanks JohnK!

As I almost fully expected, I just OLCI-ed and the seats that were shown as blocked on EF were occupied in the OLCI seat map. And OLCI correctly indicated that I was checked in to seat 57F instead of 55J.

This might be a stupid question, but has anyone had any luck with these blocked seats being released maybe at the airport upon some grovelling with the staff?
