I have one of my staff travelling to SIN in a couple of weeks, we all book individually via the corporate booking system. He/she is not a frequent flyer and is not a member of any FF program and has no preference on carrier. When we were discussing options, J MEL-SIN-MEL, EK or QF code share looks like a good option, SQ is likely to be out as there are no return flights in J and I do not expect staff to travel in Y, although they can if they want.

He/she was asking about the EK vs QF code share and when asked which one I would take, I said the code share, for SCs and QF points, and mentioned you can go to both EK and QF lounges in both locations. Reflecting on my conversation SCs and points are of no interest for the traveler, and am actually unsure on the lounge access rules. Brains trust can a non status PAX travelling QF code share on EK metal actually access both lounges. That then leads to another question if he/she travels on the EK flight number I think the chauffeur service comes back into play, unless things have changed.

I am not fussed which which carrier is used, if he/she chooses EK, QF, TG, MH, etc that is up to them. I am thinking that the best advice for a non traveler is to book on EK flight number, pros chauffeur service, the a380, the on board bar, better amenities.

As a frequent traveler I take for granted many of the perks, little touches that many infrequent travelers look for.

Question - what advice would you give, which airline would you choose in J MEL-SIN-MEL when airline or program is not a consideration.

The only way to go here is SQ... and everybody else must agree if they are sold out in J.

SQ must be doing very well on this route if they have sold out in J with four flights a day...

Totally agree with this, as long as the timing suits.

To add some more context it is only the 21:20 (SQ227) that has no J availability. If working in Singapore to say 5 pm then wanting to get back to MEL as early as possible, SQ has the jump on the other carriers as it is the first to leave working around business and office hours. In my experience this particular flight often sells out before the others and it more likely to do with timing. Add in a Sunday departure, a Friday return, booking a week out the prime time slots are in high demand. EK is the next best time option rather than hanging around the airport.
